    Wrong sound recorder screen

Looking at a screenshot of the sound recording application that was shipped with the 0.9.0.4 firmware, I suddenly realized what was bothering me so much about it...
No, it's not the fact that Meizu rushed to copy the voice memo idea from the Iphone 3.0 firmware (I just think they should have chosen another, more individual and original visual style for the sound recorder).
What's bothering me is that they got it wrong... The graphic designer that made (or simply ripped) the old style microphone idea never even bothered to have a good look at an old style microphone. In Meizu's application the microphone is firmly mounted on top of the holder and cannot pivot, which makes the side holders absolutely irrelevant .
See the attached photo of a real old style pivoting microphone, the Iphone's illustration and the M8's illustration (the bug is shown there).

The quality is in the details, and Meizu should keep this in mind... And it's not a question of "small company" and "limited resources". Seeing them making errors in trivial things like that is kinda sad...

Lol you're right, but I guess you'll only see it if you know about it, than it becomes annoying... xD

Wow! Cool down! I never said that Iphone was better or that I own one! Seems like you are one of the "guys that got problems" since you cannot withstand a little bit of founded criticism towards your phone...

Nowadays all the touchscreen phones are in a way or another Iphone lookalikes or wannabes (just look at the bunch of ugly Samungs, LGs, etc... dreaming of the commercial success of Apple's "revolution spawning but not so revolutionary after all" Iphone) and NO ONE has made a good job at it. NO ONE!

And it is sad that Meizu, who actually looks like it brings innovation in this sector (open platform in comparison to the Iphone, good hardware, very responsive touchscreen, very good design, etc...) fails to deliver quality when it comes to small and simple things...

And it is NOT a question of time (they had plenty of it), limited resources, small staff (just hire the right guys for it damn!), but it seems to me more as a lack of creativity, organization and discipline...

Today, the M8 is a half baked toy with HUGE potential. But this potential can be revealed ONLY if Meizu will begin to:
    - really collect feedback from users (paying betatesters) in an orderly fashion (I can't understand why they didn't install a bug reporting system yet )
    - react to this feedback
    - concentrate on the quality of the firmware, not the amount of functions
    - respect time schedules that they announce

Oh, and one more thing, aaronbsc: keep it simple. It's only a phone, you know. A good one, yes, but just a phone...

Please, im not that kind of "Fanboy" that you think i am. Thats an Apple invention

I see that we are kinda coincident in opinion if its about the weak points in Meizu's development. I just wanted to mention that its really unnecessary to be upset about a pic.

Im not here to asking for trouble so lets just stop this. I know its just a phone.

agree with you: quality is the details. Meizu should design a original icon of the recorder, not a simple copy , and it is a wrong copy

the only thing i think meizu should do is ADVERTISE. then, in china, sales will definitely go up. all the chinese people have to go by is a 3 second clip on CCTV. Meizu M8 would rival iPhone in China if it only had half as much advertising. Weve heard it b4, NO ONE has heard of it. I was lucky to stumble across it in an article in pop sci magazine, but apart from that, there would be no way that i would have found to about this, probably would have gotten an iPhone...
i dont really care about little icons like that, TBH. as long as it records the sound that i want it to, i think ill live

Yep... And what bothers me is that there are lots of ideas that could be used in a fresh and original way! I attached a couple of pictures showing the possibilities (took me only 5 minutes to invent these, dunno why Meizu's designers can't do that too... ). These are:

    - a classic microphone that looks more familiar and IMO better than the current one. With that, the M8 recorder won't look like a cheap Iphone knock-off...
    - 2 different type recorders: they would actually fit better in the whole Meizu UI concept, just look at the music player with its vinyl disk in the background. Also, if the tape recorders could be animated during recording and playback it would beat the Iphone hands down!
    - A cassette (same idea as the tape recorders, just a different form factor, could be animated too...)

I could have actually drawn the thing (I'm a graphic designer), but I am short on time, I unfortunately got a lot of work to do...

Well, you know, the problem about advertising a "released" product that is still in early beta state (for the firmware and software diversity parts) is very risky, because you'll draw a lot of attention to the product, and then the critics and negative reactions will follow rapidly. Just look at what happens on websites like engadget.com: every single new product is literally dissected and inspected in every possible way. The M8 in its present state will never pass the popularity test and that would kill the product and Meizu's image in the mobile phone market forever as well...

Meizu HAVE to speed up development big times, the Chinese market is already being stormed by the cellphone giants. Look here:
Palm Pre finds a totally unofficial home in China
China Mobile's customized HTC Magic gets shown off
    China Unicom wants iPhone, too?
Unicom confirmed as Chinese iPhone / G1 provider?
China Mobile planning to subvert Unicom's iPhone launch with the OPhone?
China Unicom apparently nabs another: Nokia's N97

If Meizu doesn't make a swift and long awaited move (or better a leap) forward soon, it will just loose the carrier contract race...

Well, you're not the average customer then... The majority of them actually LOOK at the details and judge the overall product's look and feel before buying it...
