Is it just me or did the multitouch zoom/pan for the image viewer get a lot smoother?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsInteresting review i thought.
He doesnt *seem* like a fanboy. . on that basis i cant see why he'd intentionally slam the m8 if he genuinely thought it was pretty decent.
Engadget quoted the worst of his review in the summary. . but the reviewer was much fairer than that. . .the interface looks awesome, to which he agreed - and there are options galore and he even mentioned the SDK. . but the music and video playback sucked. . .i guess only he and owners here can attest to the music, but the playback re-size thing was obviously poorly implemented and he showed it.
Fwiw, it's taken a little bit more of the glow away for me (admittedly thats been happening for a while now given everything thats happened). . .
I'll be heading to China soon, and personally i've now driven my decision down to price. . .if its cheap. . then ill snap one up if i can. . .if its not, then i wont consider it a loss at all.Last edited by Err0r; 02-05-2009 at 09:26 PM.

Is the music and video playback really that bad? I can probably agree to the video part, but not the music.

I can tell you that the M8's music player audio is pretty good.....it has a lot of bass too! When i mean bass i mean the "bass guitar" in songs. I have not had any experience with other chinese players such as an S-flow...so i wouldnt be able to compare. As for the video player, i guess he is right. But meizu can easily add more options through a FW update....no probs!
Overall he didnt really review the phone that good. Plus would of it hurt if he mentioned the awesome quality of the speakers......he was listening to a song too!

Thanked 1,024 Times in 375 PostsI don't agree with the audio player being bad... actually it's pretty good, has all the functions you need, the audio quality is very good (remember, it's a phone...), and can even improve with firmware updates. However the video player could use some tuning, because avi file support is not really good, so I partly agree with that. Still better than lots of other media players.
By the way, what's wrong with the video resizing function? How else could it fill the whole screen other than cutting off the black bars? I don't really get the problem...Last edited by nice2know_u; 02-05-2009 at 06:09 AM.

Thanked 1,024 Times in 375 PostsI've tried many avi files, and most of them are choppy (like they were 15-20 fps...).

could that be a problem with the files or is it definately the firmware? If it is the firmware, at least it can be updated

Hi pKraz. I'm pretty sure he mentioned the quality of the speakers more than once during the review. He commented on them positively.
Yeah..I found it kind of weird that the reviewer disliked the audio player. From what I've heard from M8 owners, it's great; there's nothing wrong with it.

Thanked 173 Times in 72 Postsit probably has to do with the encoding of the avi files. Lots of times avi has a divx codec on it. Lots of times it has to be encoded. but the firmware will improve that. Maybe the AC3 filter is the problem?!?
There is also nothing wrong with the audioplayer, speakers are very loud and clear. With avi files the sound is good, though the fps sucks. Better codec/drivers/firmware will improve that.
If you have so many problems viewing avi(to less fps) you should convert to xvid or mp4. both formats are really well supported on the M8. Make sure the movie/film has a codec that doesnt have to be encoded, like xvid.Last edited by LVL; 02-05-2009 at 07:55 AM.

Thanked 14 Times in 10 Postsyh, from what i heard, meizu used to make JUST mp3's, so audio SHOULD be their specialty!
In the chinese reviews, the dude comments on how good the sound is, for movies and music, i've heard people saying the sound is even better than an iPhones sound. So I don't know what this sound business is all about, but im going to check the vid now so, we'll see what happens.
PS: Is this the first English Language video to surface? or are there others?
PPS: lol, i just saw tails2's comment on endgadget:
I have one of these, and this guys hasn't a clue. The sound and video quality out do all the competition. The gui is smooth and fluid. While there are some problems, they have been fixing them with FW updates, with a new one on the way. What most people fail to realize is that this is MeiZu's first try, and by gosh it is a very very nice phone. Maybe I should make my own review and show what this phone is really like.
show em tails2!

Why dont a REAL M8 user, who has owned the phone for an extansive period, make a REAL review, instead of some guy playing with it for 10min without having touched it before.

He means, someone who has had it long enough to be used to using it. Someone who knows the ins and outs and can confidently do a review without making mistakes or have a biased view on the device. I don't own a camcorder, so could only make a low quality video with a phone or webcam. I may decide to do one anyway as I have yet to be satisfied with any review, Chinese or English.

Thanked 34 Times in 18 Postswhat a bad review... after 10 minutes. A lot of websites wrotes articles with this video as the source. I've also read something very interesting of a german site: Klick
google translation: Klick
They said that the m8 have just a 1,3 camera and no multitouch. They give just a few information and the most are wrong.
I think it's like the start of the Meizu m6, isn't it?
I can't imagine why they based their opinion on one bad rewiev. There are over 20 site who have written an article after this review with predominant bad critique.
I hope they will change their opinions!
(sry for the bad english)

m8 video is great... its excellent on mp4 file format 680x420...(i use the format for iphone
)... if mov, 3gp, wmv, are ok too but not as fine as mp4... only avi file is out of rhythm, sometimes very choppy, video and audio wont sync, and it skips..... ... possibly this engadget dudes are using avi video during their review.. making the remarks not so good.
