Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI asked my provider about official version, and he said me:
He has direct contact with Meizu, so I tend to trust him.my isn't tests versions, it is oversea version.
Actually M8 already has install Wifi function in the device in frist degsin and production, but base on China Gov law, In China can not use Wifi.
So they must block the wifi function and never unlock this function until cHinese gov. change the law.
But for oversea customers, like Hong Kong, they will open this function.
What do you think?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Posts^ thats the problem! Meizu has NOT officially launched a Chinese version as yet - much less even announce an international version. Meizu says very little and hints at some things to get buzz going, then as the information spreads it gets changed and tweaked by each telling...
Similar to how Rabsi1 has now baselessly and recklessly put a kernel on this board saying 5% of the next batch of M8 will be 16GB!!!
Just imagine how many readers and posters will take that little unfounded comment and spread it around and the expectations will grow from there, Meizu won't correct you, but they won't also deny, because it helps them to keep a buzz in the market. How else can you fathom people are still looking forward to this phone with high expectations after 2 years.
The only official news (that i am aware off) is that Meizu will only be launching a Chinese version (possibly soon - no date announced), they have recieved a network license, and that the chinese version will not have wifi - whether this is achieved by software block or removing the hardware has not been clarified by Meizu.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWell, this provider said me that Meizu will launch M8 officially in next week, or very soon. But problem with Wifi is annoying.
The question is if it will be blocked by software, or by hardware. If firsts versions includes Wifi, it can support it when Meizu gets the license; but it increase costs stupidly.Last edited by Err0r; 02-06-2009 at 10:25 AM.

Only problem is that Meizu has officially removed the Wifi spec from the specifications page. MEIZU M8 - Meizu Technology Co., Ltd.
But strangely enough it doesnt state Bluetooth either..
Which means that they will be focusing on China with the primary release of the M8, no news on weather there will be an international version

Actually no, they don't have to be. Meizu could have made a number of small changes since the test units were sent out. They were TEST UNITS, they are only meant to show current progress and the functionality of the phone as of up to that date. An example of a change is: WIFI BEING REMOVED!!!
This part is off topic and I apologise for this but;
RABSI!, can you please STOP posting in EVERY topic after EVERY reply, when most of what you are saying does not contribute to the thread and seems like you are replying for the sake of it. This post is the exception, but I have gone into at least 2 or 3 threads so far in the past 10 minutes where you have posted something useless.Last edited by tails2; 02-07-2009 at 01:04 AM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsSo... my question is:
Definitely, is official that M8 will have not Wi-fi hardware? I haven't seen it already.
Because, technically, test versions hasn't Wi-fi too - only with a crack.
Can Meizu do the same with "official" version?

Probably not, since the Chinese FCC will check what is inside of the M8 and approve of it.

ANSWER: No body knows. Meizu has not released this information. Anything else is pure speculation and wishful thinking. Just have to wait.

I spoke to some Meizu retailers today and they're all working under the assumption/expectation that the production M8 will not have WiFi. They also said the "真死板" ("real") M8 will be out sometime next week. Of course, this was dangled almost like bait: You want the whole enchilada? Better grab it while you can. The positive side is that there appears to be plenty of test units still available, at least where I am. Walk in, plunk down your cash, and its yours if you so desire.

Hi there,
thanks for all the news.
I am in shanghai now, and only 4 Meizu shops. I've tried the closest to my place (handan lu) but was closed on saturday... I was really close to wait for the official release, but I am really interested in the wifi.
I beleive the wifi will still be there, but software locked. The question is: will this lock be firmware related or not?
anyway, I've a video of the phone is use, it it seems quite good and reactive compared to my LG Viewty.
Cheers,
Pierre

Thing is, the WiFi is "locked" right now with these test versions; the first thing you do when you buy it is unlock it...or the shop does it for you. If it's true that WiFi isn't going to be there, then it's really not going to be there.
If you really want one with WiFi, I'ds say buy it now...but please take some time to read all the bugs-and-annoyances -type and threads here on the forum. You have nothing to lose unless owning the "official" release means something to you.
Can't really understand why the shop would be closed; today is a working day...unless they were out buying fireworks for the last night of the Lunar New Year. It's like World War 3 tonight outside where I live.

According to what I understand, "removing" the wifi, means the hardware between the test version and the "officialy final" version will be different. That sounds weird to me, producing a phone, even in a test version, that is spread all around china, to be produced again, differently... except if the test version of the m8 is out for a long time now. Thus, hardware changes can have been made thou...
Thanks for this advice. Moreover, if shops receive the final version, I guess they will not throw away the tests version phones they haven't sell yet... I'll see later anyway, since it seems the official release is really close from now, according to the rumours around.
Saturday was a working day, I guess. I know a friend of mine called the 3 other shops, and only 1 of them was open yesterday (sunday).
Anyway, it is indeed like the WWIII outise
.
Happy lantern's day
