this comment is going to be off topic but it is worth mentioning. wasnt the M8 suppose to be a cheap iphone competitor with a lot more specs so now what is the point of buying it if the ones Curently available are even dearer with less specs than the 1st iphone itself i mean come on peoples unless the price stays not too far at what J.W said it will sell for it is not worth looking at for at least untill third parties stop scamming. i am looking forward to grap one but at the price tags i read on some threads. i rest my case

How does the M8 cost more in these listings than an iPhone. Have you ever calculated the final iPhone cost?

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsNo, it's not really being ripped off. If you want something that's rare or exclusive to a specific region you have to pay a premium to those capable of delivering the goods. That's all there is to it. When the first gen iphone launched I'm pretty sure people outside the US paid extra to get it just because it wasn't readily available to them. The price people are paying for m8s right now is actually pretty reasonable. Not only that but keep in mind that the premium could have been alot higher. Now I highly doubt that people would still pay the premium had it been too much higher, but still it could have been priced considerably more. Had some third party seller priced an M8 at 450 to 500 euro someone would have paid the price. It's no secret that the unreleased blackberry's go on ebay for thousand's of dollars. So again, I don't think its about being ripped off, it's about adopting early and paying the premium to do so.

For the last f-ing time, the iPhone is still not cheaper. The iPhone will cost you around $900 USD!
There are free phones on contracts, do you interpret it as they cost nothing?
No one is going to sell for China price. Transactions and labor actually cost money in this world. Can't wait to play with the Meizu MX!

yeah I have to agree the M8 will probably work out cheaper than the iphone offline when it is finally on general release in china. Nevertheless the gap between the pricing now is actually quite small/ almost non existent. Here in the Uk you can buy an unlocked iphone off ebay for £380 brand new. From the looks of those ebay auctions the price of the M8 price is very close to this price when you factor in transactions, labour etc.
I hate to say it but I am not really sure any more that the M8 is worth it. I mean almost £400 (inc shipping) for a phone with almost no internet connectivity options (apart form edge) seems like madness to me. Hopefully the price will come down when it gets a proper release but still the M8 is not looking like such an attractive option anymore when you consider the fact that it is basically a normal phone with good media playback features and no decent speed internet. Is that really worth £400? I don't think so.
The problem is there are no similar devices to the iphone and m8 available with decent touch interfaces (until the palm pre comes out anyway) (I don't include winmo phones in this as they are a joke). The penetration that the iphone has had in the market over here is truly staggering too. I was on the train yesterday and 3 people out of the 9 people sitting in the seats next to me were all using iphones. So many people own one here I would say it is definitely one of the most common hand sets you can buy.
It does sadden me to see what the M8 has become but I guess we can still hope for an international version. I won't be getting one any time soon though. With the inevitable price bumps ebays is not looking like a decent option either unless you have deep pockets.Last edited by sere83; 01-14-2009 at 07:19 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsMeizu will be bank rupted, the meizu m8 is a complete dissaster, no wifi, no gps no 3g, and people selling in around 500€ are we crazy??? Meizu said that is will be 250$, M8 would be great the past year, nowadays it's a simple touch phone, that it's value is almost the double as nokia 5800
I won't pay mre than 250€ for this crap pseudo iphone

then you will never get one. the phones price is 2380 Yuan what is about 250€ and who do you think will ship it to you for free?

The main reason that the M8 is more inexpensive is that it does not have a contract. Contracts for phones tend to tether you to a certain plan, which are usually priced unfairly. The iPhone is about:
$199 - Down payment
$~50 - Activation fee
$1440 - Average cost of plan in 2.5 years
They sell cars for $0 down, you still need to pay the rest somehow, or how do you expect anyone to make money?
Please get back on topic everyone.

as I said though people have to be realistic, 380-500 euro for anM8 is far too much. I think people would be stupid to spend that much on it.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsVALUE vs. Cost
True... from my part of the world = Dubai currently (it could well have been CA or some other spot around the world where my biz had me). I paid approx. 500 USD for the M8. Now, i must qualify that with one remark... i didn't pay a premium for the acquisiton of the phone i paid the china price. period. the additional 150 is my estimation of shipping charges, customs duties, communication cost/time wasted, etc... i really don't know what i paid for all this since shipping et al. was billed to my company TNT account, and i guess somebody in accounting will tell me sooner or later.
Also, i am the kind of guy who would pay for the novel item.
Its kinda late here... approx 2 am, and after using the phone for a few hours today, i have to say VALUE wise, its not there yet. I am thinking i should have gone out and bought the Touch HD (and most likely will... in a week or so)... as a very expensive PMP in which i may or may not keep another SIM - its ok... (oh and wifi, works ok)
Personally, I need a phone that will be my primary mode of biz/personal communication and i can't trust the M8 to this task yet. I bought it 'cause i had lost my touch diamond last month and my N95 was getting old. The Touch HD (or something similar), i think would be more suited for me at this time as a primary phone.
I could relegate the M8 to my travel phone - which is a phone i use for local sims of foriegn countries, or as a phone that i won't miss (while my main one is on roaming) - but in that regards my N95 would still be a better bet (because a better camera and dictionary functions), or even the MOTO razr - who would steal a razor in a third world country!
As time progresses and Meizu is officially launched internationally, and the english interface becomes more user friendly, and [english] apps start coming out - then it would be another issue.
Lastly is the stupid notion of image! You see, without a global media circus launch of the M8 as a credible phone in its own right, i really don't want to spend 20 mins trying to explain to all and sundry (especially in a business meeting) how my 'Chinese' M8 is not a fake iphone, but is really an iphone competitor
- It's slightly easier to brush off if you have two phone and one is the M8 and the other is an HTC or nokia; but not so much when the M8 is your only phone.

got myself the Nokia 5800 for 335€.
it`s not an M8 screenwise and video stuff. u know what i mean...
but still. it got gps, wifi and everything else you would want. there are always things missing in EVERY phone. iphone has alot (not everything though) but it`s expensive as hell. M8 is missing some, for most people that is, important features, but it is "cheap". Nokia has alot, is missing alot but at a decent price. there are SO many phones to choose from.
just get another phone and wait until meizu gets the M8 out internationally!

lets try to find a realistic price:
i think 400$ is the minimum price we can expect.
as i said before i would pay 420$ (320€). this is a offer (pre-order) of a shop i do not want to make advertising for. lets wait if they keep this price.
the shops which offer the phone yet want to make money and is it not clear if they really have the phone
