I don't understand how are people in china supposed to use this? I thought they did not have edge in china?

GPRS? I mean, it's possible because all you're sending is text really.

does anyone use messanger over gprs? I've never heard of that. I'm starting to wonder if Meizu are completely insane. I mean why start developing an application for a phone that has no connectivity! Just to make a few testers or people lucky enough to get a test unit happy?

Uh, China Mobile and China Unicom both have EDGE. No connectivity? Crazy people going nuts over the lack of Wifi. I'll go enjoy my mobile EVERYWHERE instead of while taking a dump in the bathroom Wait, I could do that too with EDGE! I could also ICS, upload photos while on the subway, use google maps with GPS, etc. Meizu isn't totally insane you know. And there are *gasp* people who pay for data. Why do you think networks put up 2g/2.5g/3g?

Quit your whining guys, Blackberries have usually lacked Wifi, no one goes crazy over that. Just pay for the damn data service. People are willing to pay for Wifi at Starbucks (what, $5 for an hour before? Now it's about half a day?), but not $20-30 for flat rate monthly usage... boggles my mind. Note: Blackberries have traditionally been wildly successful, ie-BB Pearl, etc., before the advent of the first BB with wifi, the Curve, in, get this, SEPTEMBER 2007. What do you think people used that wicked QWERTY keyboard for? SMS-ing themselves? They used...wait for it... EDGE!!!!!!

That's a different issue. At home, or at a friend's house, would you rather pay extra for 3G or EDGE when you can just use your/their Wi-Fi? It just doesn't make sense to be forced to pay the data plan for the consumers, if you just use it at home.

Bringing it back on topic, the interface looks nice and clean and no unnecessary junk is there. It even trumps Microsoft's own version, with ads and all.

well thanks for clearing that up i didn't know anything about china's networks or whether they supported edge.

Now you can say whatever but everyone knows edge is very slow. Here in the UK we have amazing 3G coverage, many low end phones have 3G so to be buying an edge handset know is certainly a step backwards.

That is not the main point though. The point is the M8 is supposed to be a competitor to the iphone and other similar devices yet the only option for getting on the internet is a data plan over edge? It migt be ok if it was a $300-$400 handset but as you might have seen from the other threads the M8's are popping up on ebay at prices ranging from 380-500 euro. Any one who believes that buying a phone with only edge connectivity for this price is good value, is to put it simply....dillusional.

That price is exepnsive even for a highend pmp with wifi connectivity.

Back on topic: I agree the interface is very nice, good to see some nice apps emerging. As i have no edge data plan I will probably never be able to use it though.

I think if we waited for the official release, and then waited some more...the eBay prices would definitely drop.

And im glad Meizu will soon release a messenger apps for MSN... that would be totally awesome using either EDGE or WIFI.

Recently, Microsoft changes Windows Live interface. Will Meizu change their interface too? Maybe this one will become old...

And MS changes "states" too. Now there are no "away", "at telephone", "I'm going back", etc. Now there's only three options (and invisible mode): Available, Not available, and I can't talk (marked with green, orange and red colour).
It will make any change in this Meizu Messenger?
