omg that would be great! maybe it would shorten the waiting time enormously and we would get wifi in our favourite phone

Well... would be great für MEIZU and the M8. But honestly I don't care anymore, because I bought an iPhone today.
I don't think it will be that easy to change the production of M8! They made an M8 without WiFi now and I think they allready started massproduction with it (I read that there are already M8 without WiFi on the officel English Forum). So if there will be a change in the license stuff, it will take some time for MEIZU to deal with it.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWhy? The actual test versions should contain Wifi, shouldn't they?
To 3G:
That means the Meizu would also be usable in Europe? The best answers can be given on the most foolish questions, be thankfull that I am alive!

oOh... you can use the M8 in Europe anyway.
Yes the actual test version is with the Wi-Fi hardware. But the "new" M8 without WiFi is allready in prodction so most of the newer M8's in the stars wont have WiFi, thought.
Even if you get your M8 to Europe, what will you do when something doesn't worke anymore? Always send it back to China? Will be quite expensive.... I don't think you really get warranty on your phone.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsafter that huge time it took to build it, I guess, everyone who's saying the final version will be really final and will have high quality, are right, I wanna use it at least 2 years, otherwise they ca't be proud of their quality (even in chinese standarts)

Thanked 34 Times in 21 Postsi don't really think 3G development actually does help the wifi case in China. this way the now they have an excuse, they can just say that if you want fast data transfer, you should use 3G. and to officials, it never would matter that the 2 things are not alternatives to eachother.
and about the warranty: at least JW has a good attitude about these problems. but no matter what kind of phone you buy in China, there will not be any warranty for it in EU, and vica versa. so it doesn't just effect the M8, but all phones originating from that part of the world for now.略懂

Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post@chrisi:
Can you give us a link to where you read about the M8 without Wi-Fi already being produced?
So far the only credible information I'm aware of regarding this topic is waja2000's post. And it didn't sound like a final JW announcement, but more like a strong possibility given the difficulties in obtaining the phone license. But even if the official M8 version is really without Wi-Fi, how can it already be in production? I was under the impression that the license was necessary also for large scale production..Last edited by Traps; 01-01-2009 at 06:25 PM. Reason: typo

Thanked 34 Times in 21 Posts@traps: as far as i can see, there was no official announcement that wifi will be left out. even in that topic waja corrected after a few minutes, that it's not for sure. JW said let's wait for it, and probably we'll get some info this week. unfortunately we didn't get anyhting yet, at least i haven't seen anything confirmed on the BBS.

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostYes, that's why I find it hard to believe that the M8 without Wi-Fi could already be in production.. maybe chrisi just caught up with some rumour?
PS:
I used to look for information on the official BBS too, but now it's no longer possible to access JW's page without being a registered user (I didn't try to register using Google translate yet, is it possible?)... and it's quite hard to find the last JW posts just by browsing the forums over there

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostThanks for the offer, but even if you would register for me I would still need to login using Google Translate, so there's no point unless that works.. I will try doing it myself sometime.
Anyway, I just tried the search in the Meizu BBS and was able to come up with a nice search results page, containing the latest threads that have posts by JW. Not as useful as getting just the posts by JW, but much better than nothing. Thanks for the hint!
PS: sorry for the offtopic everyone.

I can help you to buy a M8! it's true!come on!!!! - Meizu M8 - Meizu Forums
Post #7 =)
I don't know if it's real or if he only want someone to order faster... but I think it's true.
Anyway, there would be no reason for MEIZU to still produce the M8 with WiFi if they are not allowed to sell it. It would cost a lot for nothing.... and maybe they won't get their license if they do.

Thanked 34 Times in 21 Postsi will trust that, if i hear an official piece of news saying that wifi is out of the picture.
btw, it would be worth for them to keep on producing test units with wifi, cause a lot of people would still buy those imho.略懂

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsTotally agree, as i had written elsewhere there would be no reason for Meizu to retool the production without an official notice/decision, if all the development work was done using modules that have wifi (if the wifi is integrated with other functions)... even if wifi was a seperate board it would take some time to retool the production/MOQ commitments with suppliers that have to be in place... Chrisi, if it took meizu so long to produce the phone already, it would be counter intutive to think they have already started mass producing phones without wifi from the time of the first sceptical report (about a week ago) - especially given the holidays. I hope you enjoy your iphone though... i have been thinking about buying the HTC Touch HD myself, but can't justify the expense as yet.
Though i tried to find out from the person who has signed me up on the waiting list at the shenzhen Meizu reseller if the phones that they expect to recieve in January will be demo/tester units or production ones, i could not get a proper answer... language barriers mostly... and i haven't pushed it.
In all intuitive sense they would be better off producing phones as 'demos' for now and shipping them out - but then they could further run afoul of authorities maybe. Apparently they did have few phones they sold just yesterday at the Shenzhen launch of the new store... what i still haven't been able to find out is if they produced/ordered X number of phones upto this point which have been selling as 'demos' with no additional production slated, this could be very likely and work in the favor of a no-wifi phone outlook. I have been told thay my phone would be allegedly delivered on or before the 11th of Jan, so will wait and see with fingers crossed.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIf visit the official site of the Meizu (Eng. version) you can see that WiFi is not been mentioned under the specification of the M8! So....

So, nothing has been proven yet. The M8 is a quad band phone, but it's not listed on the official website.
