Thanked 26 Times in 5 PostsM8's power consuming test under many conditions
Battery Voltage: 4.1V(fully charged)
Signal: Excellent
Network: CMCC
Background light: 50%
Environment Brightness sensor: ON
Other settings: Default
Note: The current is not constant, so the numbers here is the approximated value.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MODE | CURRENT
Power On | 230mA
Power On and Searching Network | 240mA
Standby(Screen On, no operation) | 140mA
Standby(Moving desktop icons) | 200mA
Standby(Screen On, no operation, Bluetooth ON) | 145mA
Standby(Screen On, no operation, WLAN ON) | 155mA
Searching for WLAN | 250mA
E-Book Reading(Constant display) | 165mA
E-Book Reading(Rolling) | 230mA
Camera(Viewing) | 330mA
Video Playback | 220~250mA
Standby(Screen OFF, Network ON) | 5mA
Standby(Screen OFF, FLYING-MODE) | 2mA
Searching Network(Returning from flying mode) | 400mA
Phone Call | 400mA MAX, then decreases to 300mA
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Conclusion:
1. With the screen on and no operations, M8 will consume about 140~160mA, which equals to about 0.65Watt. While operating, the power consuming about 0.95W. So try not to make the screen display change frequently as possible to reduce the power.
2. When network is on, deep standby current stays near 5mA but will leap every few seconds.
3.Flying-Mode consumes almost none power.
4. Forgot to test the background-music-playing power...OMG.
5. WiFi is VERY power consuming!

Good work
Can use this data to calculate the maximum duration? ( For the mp3 playback, etc. )

Yes, you should be able to do that. These kind of data is even more flexible though as you can use the power consumption to calculate battery times for different kind of battery sizes.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsJust take the mA from a single operation and image doing that for one hour. You'll have used up that same amount in mAh. The battery can take 1200 mAh -> so simply divide those two to get the possible amount of hours of operation on the m8.
To calculate a few (rough) ->
MODE | HOURS
Standby(Moving desktop icons) | 6
Standby(Screen On, no operation, WLAN ON) | 7,5
E-Book Reading(Constant display) | 7,5
Camera(Viewing) | 3,5
Video Playback | 5
Standby(Screen OFF, Network ON) | 240
Phone Call | 3,5
Compared to Apple's (sugarcoated-buffed, i admit) specifications for iPhone battery life the m8 seems to last shorter than the iPhone. Which is quite bad actually as the iPhone is already dead within a day when used intensively.
@fineday: thanks a lot for these numbers! They are really great and most importantly very reliable to conclude things from. However, I'd like to know some other consumption situations like while browsing using wifi/edge and mp3-playing. If you could test those too, that would be great.

So what, 3 hour talk time? 240 hour stand-by?

Thanked 26 Times in 5 PostsYes. If you leave it alone while environment signal is good and no any incoming call/message/anything else, it can stand by for several days.
5mA is not the exact value, I'm not meaning the standby current is constant 5mA. It is changing everytime, around 5mA. So there won't be 240hrs standby, but several days.

Thanked 26 Times in 5 PostsYep. M8 is a little too energy-costing right now. MEIZU is optimizing the battery life. M8 has many things that can be optimized, so don't worry. At least the standby current is very good (while NOKIA N82 will cost over 10mA while standing by). And M8's hardware is more powerful than iPhone such as the screen and CPU(?), costing more energy is normal. However M8's battery is not fixed into the phone, that's very important I think.
I'll try to perform another test later. That time I'll make a list first, or you guys could help me making a test conditions list? What power consuming conditions you wanna know?

yeah some music playback figures would be nice. As Dusl mentioned and from what I have heard from owners, the iphone only lasts about a day of normal usage, so I think Meizu have done fairly well considering the higher res screen and increased processsing power. I have also found many far less powerful devices like my old sony ericsson and my current nokia also only seem to last about a day of moderate use.
Having a removable battery is so sweet though! I mean I cannot imagine me carrying one all the time, but on longer trips where I will be looking to watch quite a bit of video it will definitely be a god send.
Lets hope they can optimise the power consumption further too. After only one FW update though it's seems like it can definitely stand shoulder to shoulder with similar devices on the market in terms of power consumption.Last edited by sere83; 12-22-2008 at 04:16 PM.

hey,
i would like to hear a general conclusion... just use the phone normaly and tell us how often you have to load it. (for me normal use is: phone, sms, some minutes of internet, some mp3s maybe an video, not much gaming etc.)
in my oppinion these times do not really say anything about the real time.

Updated. Sorry that it's in Chinese.
Surfing the Internet with WiFi costs 126mA for MIN, 217mA for AVG and 370mA for MAX.
Music playing in background costs 39mA for MIN, 48mA for AVG and 128mA for MAX while playing MP3 format; 53mA for MIN, 83mA for AVG and 165mA for MAX while playing APE format.
