OK, just to summarize so that the thread doesn't grow to 20 pages of "is it 8gb or 16gb?" type questions:
-pekingman lives in Beijing
-he paid 25% over cost to get his hands on an M8; he did not walk into a Meizu shop and buy one...he got it through "connections", which is probably the only way anyone's going to get one for the time being.
-according to the firmware, he may have one of the earlier "test" units sent out for evaluation and demonstration purposes. This doesn't mean his phone is "used"; it means someone held it back and sold it for a tidy profit. This is China; happens all the time.
-if true, then this version doesn't have the revised hardware and firmware and may not be a "true" test of the M8's full potential
-pekingman doesn't care; he has 2 more M8s on order
-pekingman has a lot more money than I do
-it's an 8GB unit; there has been no news/announcement of a 16GB M8 for sale
-the sound quality will depend on how well Meizu designed the circuitry around the Wolfson WM8753. The 8753 is not the same as the WM8987 used in the M6 or M3. I think it does not support some of the signal processing features (like "spatializer") because it's designed for both the audio & voice applications needed by a mobile phone. The M8 does have an equalizer, though.
-pekingman is working up a bigger review...let's wait & see

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsHey, pekingman,
When you go on to settings and go on GPRS, what do you see? Do you see a part where you can put the APN, Proxy IP, and Port anywhere in the network.
Thanks

Hi guys,
Crazyness is happening here.
I have received 12 calls already from my "gemen" friend who helped me to get this M8. Apparently someone from Meizu has discovered that i have this phone and they seem to want me to return it very badly....
Not sure why but i guess i do have a testing unit. So im torn about what to do. i will definitely not just give it back, i have my hands on it now so i dont want to NOT have it.
Anyway, the reviews WILL be posted.
Im not keen on being pressed by corporations so i will keep the phone.
More news soon...

Maybe you can make a deal with the guy at Meizu, and get them to send you a free M8 once they are produced if you give this one back. That might be actually better, since you can update your firmware. Or send it back to the guy, get a full refund, and wait for the M8 to be released, and pay 25% less than what you did before.

Pretty simple, really: Those phones probably weren't meant to be in customer's hands. Meizu might be asking whoever sold the phone to your gemen either to return it or to exchange it for the latest version. They may have even signed something along the lines of a confidentiality agreement or saying the phone was not for resale. If it's a shop, they're gonna be mighty worried about their sales license with Meizu. If it's someone from a tech website or something, they can probably forget receiving any future test units from Meizu.
At any rate Meizu is just looking out for their customers...and their brand image. Just get your money back and/or one of the latest versions.

Theyve offered me more than i paid for it to return it, significantly more. BUT its a really hard decision. I dont want to burn any bridges, but at the same time i dont wanna give it back and then start waiting again. Damn.
Gotta think about this.
Its such a nice phone.......

12-11-2008 #95Do it...but if it were me, I'd go to the exchange with my gemen and then wouldn't take the extra money. I'm sure you know all about having good 关系Theyve offered me more than i paid for it to return it, significantly more.

i do, and as we all know guanxi is important. and i have discovered that unless i return it, the retailer will get their sales license pulled.
so ill review it thoroughly today and return it tomorrow.
damn, i feel violated...... just got it and have to give it back.....
well, better to have loved and lost........

so i got another call and they asked me if i had been messing with the WIFI access and the m8cracker......
whats up with the harsh attitude???
apparently i am persona non grata already....
its going to be an interesting day for sure...

Return it man... We are all pretty sure you have a test unit. You'll be much happier with a retail unit. Test units may or may not be able to have their firmwares updated. This will prevent you from getting new features that are released in future firmwares. Just return it, get all your money back, but try to milk them for as much money as you can get. Make them pay for your inconvenience.

You should return it. They are already offering more than what you paid for it; not returning it will cause more problems for you, Meizu, and the others involved as well. Meizu can easily hire authorities and track you down in no time (it's China after all).
BUT FIRST...
Finish your lengthy review, and mess around with the M8 cracker. :P I'd like to see if Wifi Bluetooth and Edge really works (well).

12-11-2008 #100Nah, they're just worried...really worried. Any signs the phone's been tampered with and they get an earful (or worse) from Meizu. Like I said before, if it's a shop this is literally their lifeblood. Despite their greed, I'd still go in person and give them 面子 and refuse the extra money...anyway, you know the game. If they're otherwise decent people, it should at least be worth a deal on your future purchases.so i got another call and they asked me if i had been messing with the WIFI access and the m8cracker......
