Yes, but as you said, it only happens when product is dangerous or illegal.
M8 is not illegal stuff. Illegal are drugs, but not a device that it haven't a seller in this country.

I find it very very hard to believe meizu are not trying to release this device as soon as possible. Why would you send a whole load of test units to all the the top tech mags then not release it? Wong is not an idiot he knows how many people are waiting to spend money on the M8, you honestly believe he is not going to do whatever he can to release it?
Plus, Wong has already said that the company has taken a huge risk and will be in financial dire straits unless they release soon. Whether the license comes through in 2008 is another question, as that is effectively out of their control. I can't see Meizu surviving though unless they release the M8 very soon though.
With regards to importing you can import anything into europe. A lot of illegal stuff even doesn't get picked up by customs, it is very difficult to regulate every package. If you marked the package as a gift and said 'cell phone' or 'mp3 player' that would easily get through. I have imported a number of mp4 players from china to teh Uk.
I really don't care at all if the M8 does not get an official release in europe...in fact I would probably prefer it. It would make it more unique and also stop meizu being at risk from apples lawyers. We already know the M8 has full english language support and I know quite a few exporters who ship to Europe, if the M8 is released in large numbers in China there is NO WAY that you will not be able to get one into Europe.

ellaellasong,
All you have to say about Meizu is negative stuff. There's nothing wrong with that, but do you have proof (regarding the emails)?

@waja: Don't feel so threatened by this ella person. We have seen no proof that what this person is saying is in anyway true. In fact you have contributed to this site much more than anyone could have expected and I am sure I speak on behalf of every other member when I say thank you for that

ok, i tried to tell what is going on and some of you dont trust. normal thing. we all live in a virtuell world at this place. no i am not using any apple gadgets and i am not a apple fan. notebook from acer, mp3 players from meizu, phone from motorola - does that sound very apple-fresh?
at this point i will link out. in my opinion the phone will never release officialy or if, much tooooo late, maybe may 2009. i am not very happy how meizu is handelung the communcation about the release dates. waja2000, did you read in december 07 what j. wong wrote about the release date. wasnt it january after ces in las vegas?
*************************************
i wish all of you that you can get the phone asap. i wish meizu that they will not loose to much fans and will have great earnings and a great future. bye
@ tails2
i hope you will deliver....sure you are not happy about my words...dont want to destroy your plans to sell

For official release day, nobody sure went it will release, alot possibility, maybe next week, maybe next year, event JWong also not able to give comfirmation on went, because nobody sure the M8 went will getting network license. is beyong J.Wong control.
For Meizu, they not afraid to sell M8 to oversea, but problem is now is not the right time M8 official sell in Oversea, M8 possible will getting sue by Apple, who will win not very sure, but problem is Meizu now no have that money & time play with Apple lawyers. i just can say any oversea company want to official distrubute m8 to oversea is not right time talking to Meizu, at lease few month after M8 official release in china. remember Jwong said, after M8 official release, he will going to Bank to sign the 100 million loan and used for purchase m8 raw material.
On next week, Meizu will receive the 1st "M' trademark certificate (if not any Appeal by other company) and that trademark certificate will re-summit to Authorities for last part of network license approval, due to 1st trademark certificate is under category of drink and food, Accept or not depend on Authorities hand, if failed agian to get network license, they have to wait untill March next year because on that time meizu will receive 2nd "M" trademark certificate for electronic category.

@waja:very interesting stuff
If I understand correct, the Meizu "M" is at current registered as a trademark for a company dealing in "Wine and foodstuff"? Why?
If you know anything about this I'd be happy to hear about it.

not only in electronic, Meizu also apply "M" trademark include in all category of product, JWong said they dont want any other company from any industry use "M" logo. And in china trademark authoritues is approval trademark category-by-category. usually in china need 3~4 year to getting trademark certificate.

@sere83:
I agree 100% with you...
@ellaellasong:
one thing I don't understand. Why don't you proof anything what you're writing if Meizu told you to inform the community (or did I get something wrong in your post)?
Cheers Wolfgang

If M8 is only a prototype and never will be in mass-production, Meizu will broke.
Production cost of ONE M8 when you're producing about 10.000, maybe cost 2000RMB. But if you're only doing 10 devices, cost will be about some hundred thousands dollars.
It's ridiculous to think that M8 will never release. Meizu is a little company, and they can't do a prototypes of devices that they never won't sell. And, for sure, is stupid doing that think believe that this device will be selling soon if you won't do this...
P.D.: Sorry for my English, is very bad and I'm tired...
