Nice find. Maybe it's underclocked? Maybe hardware on the test units are different?

Btw, changed the thread topic from "What the hell is mean?!?"

i think you have miss J.Wong reply in last 2 month.
M8 defaults application speed is on 533Mhz, software can use until 677Mhz, depend your coding.
And M8 UI is run on 65K+color effect processing, but some software in run on 1600K color.
M8 is 256MB DDR ram, after M8 boot up, system already taking out 80MB++,you just left 164MB for other application.

(Paraphrasing what waja said)

All specs are there as promised. The M8 is just underclocked to save battery life. RAM is 256 mb, with the OS taking about 80mb, so 164 mb is left for free usage. For color, UI is run in 65K colors, but is possible to run apps in 16 million colors. Again, to extend battery life.(?)

You are comparing two completely different programs. The M8 WR-tools could just show only what the system is running on, and not its maximum capabilities.

Either way, I dont really get what you are trying to say.

Well, I agree with that.
And what about the number of colors? 65 thousand is not 16 million

So, the important question is:
videos and photos will be in 16 million colors, or not?

If only UI is in 65k colors and other apps use 16 million, there's no problem. I guess that they use 65k colors in UI to save RAM (not battery life).

So, the screen is in 16 million colors.
It's like if you only use MS-DOS with your new notebook. Maybe it seems that is only monochromic.

And, as I said, I think that use only 65k colors for UI is for save RAM (and, of course, it extends battery life, but in second term).

And will you notice the difference when you use 65k colors and 16 million colors?? I don't know, in the reviews, I see the UI and some photos and I though they were almost the same...

Probably you won't notice the 65K in the UI. The videos and pictures will use 1600K, that's what matters anyway...

You should be able to notice the difference between 65k and 16M colours, but the difference won't be big. Almost all phones only have 65k screens.

@Alex: You should update to SP3, seriously. That's dangerous, using only SP1.

kadajawl:

I remember reading somewhere that SP3 gets rid of some features without notifying you first. I can't remember what they were but I remember it was good enough for me to stay on SP2

You'll notice difference between 65k and 16million colors if they hadn't done UI specially for 65k.
I wanna mean: if you get a 16million photo and convert to 65k, you'll notice a little difference. But they create a new UI, and I'm sure that they take care about 65k colors, so you really don't notice any difference.

At least, I see UI perfectly smooth.
But: wallpapers will use 16 million color or 65k? With this minimalistic device, it's good to put a simple and minimalistic gradient for wallpaper.

So. Two weeks ago I wrote that the Meizu M8 has 65000 colors.
People answered that nothing terrible there.

Well, feel the difference!

It's still going to use 16 million colors in the picture viewer and the movie player application, so don't worry.

Seeing that the M8 photo has compression artifacts may just mean that they didn't save the photo properly. How do we know that these aren't doctored, and I'm sure those are from an early firmware anyways, so just chill people.
