Well for a start the iphone does not use a 16 million color screen. Secondly do you really think that you can notice a huge difference between 65,000 colours and 16million? you must have incredible super human eyes if you can.
Thirdly as people have mentioned the M8 is underclocked to save battery and uses ram for the Os. Have you ever thought about why no phones on the market have a 3.4inch 720x480 res screen that constantly uses 16 million colours and 256mb of ram and a 667mhz ARM CPU at top speed. I will tell you why...BECAUSE THE BATTERY LIFE WOULD BE APPALING if they constantly ran at these settings. Hence why Meizu have done what they have done.
I would love to see you try and find a a phone on the market that runs an ARM cpu continuously clocked at 667mhz and a 16million colour 720x480 screen. Good luck....you will need it.
I don't even know why you are making such a big deal about this. As people have mentioned for photos and video 16 million colours will be used and the M8 supports the highest video resolution/data rate of any phone on the market. What else do you want the moon on a stick?

So there's 16 million colors with videos and photos? What's the big deal then?

Thanked 1,024 Times in 375 PostsYeah, at least that's what JW said a few days ago... Don't know what's the big deal with "only" 65K colors.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWell the only comment I think is worth to make is that one needs to be sure of sources. That picture shows little, the picture itself may be 16bit already, hehh. If J. Wong says it's 24bit colour depth, then he probably doesn't lie. And using 16bit colour depth is a good optimization. Look at it like this. You loose it where you WANT to loose it (battery life) and you get it where you want it (pictures!). It would be best to see the working model in hand to decide how it is, but I think that in the general UI a 16bit colour depth is fair enough.
