Yes moderator, we did step out of line...but perhaps you have not seen some things that we've been through.
I saw a relatively new user asking a question, so I decided to help out.
("EVERYBODY, IM WORRIED. THE M8 ONLY SUPPORTS DUAL-BAND NOT QUAD-BAND. IT ONLY SUPPORTS 900MHZ AND 1800MHZ. I HAVE A TMOBILE PAY-AS-YOU-PLAN AND I WANT TO PUT MY SIM CARD INTO IT BUT NOW SINCE ITS DUAL BAND I DONT THINK I WANT TO GET IT.")
Even when he rudely typed in ALL CAPS, I pardoned him and answered his question.
This was his response to me:
"NO WAY, UR LYING, IT (ON THE MEIZU SITE) SPECIFICALLY SAYS THAT IT IS 800 AND 1900. I DONT SEE QUAD-BAND ANYWHERE SIR
ITS DUAL BAND. DAMMIT"
I don't know about you, but it kind of agitates me when I get called a "LYING SIR" when I was doing was trying to help someone.
Traps you talked about bullying the new member. It's more like vice-versa. I'm not the bully here.Last edited by <=~Rex.llvleizu~=>; 12-04-2008 at 01:16 AM.

Ah, they updated it. There probably will be further confusion, but at least now we have an official source.
EDIT: Scratch that, basically they did the exact opposite.Last edited by JkPwNsTeR; 12-04-2008 at 03:15 AM.

Thanked 26 Times in 5 PostsThere are many reason that why MEIZU only says Dual-Band. Do you notice that, in the official website, MEIZU even doesn't say M8 supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth?
There are many strange stipulates in China, and one of them is the "Network-using Licence"("入网许可证" in Chinese). Every cellphone must get that licence or it will be illegal both in using and selling. To get that license, one manufacturor must send product to a appointed department to run a test. Currently if a cellphone supports Wi-Fi without WPAI, it will NEVER get the licence, and NEVER can sell legally in China Mainland——what a f-word stipulate.
So if MEIZU wants to sell M8 legally, it must disable WiFi. That's the reason why MEIZU doesn't say M8 supports WiFi in the official website.
However, disable EDGE and Bluetooth support is not by the same reason. MEIZU just wants to get the licence as quickly as possible, so they only applicated the base function, which are GPRS and GSM. So in final-released product in China Mainland, there won't be EDGE and Bluetooth.
BTW: Exported M8 will support them defaultly, coz there won't be such stupid law outside China.

Thank you very much for that run down of Chinese consumer electronic regulations. Do you have JW's quote available? I can't find it at the bbs because my Chinese is too poor.

Thanked 26 Times in 5 PostsCan't find the post by J.Wong.
But found this:
http://bbs.meizu.com/viewthread.php?tid=716481
What andygzq said is the MEIZU's official explaining.
M8 is Quad-Band, but only applicated as Dual-Band. So it is marked by "GSM 900/1800" but in fact it's fully Quad-Band workable and need no crack or anything else. Just labeled "GSM 900/1800", that's all.Last edited by fineday; 12-21-2008 at 07:36 PM.

I found the post and translated it. It's here http://www.meizume.com/minione-m8/75...-progress.html
It supports quadband but our network license (application) only covers dualband.- [Fred]

Thanked 3 Times in 3 PostsCould someone give me some basic understanding of these various bands?
My USA Verizon phone works in China, yet my Chinese [China Mobile] phone doesn't work in the USA. It does work in Italy.
The eBay listings for the M8's on eBay state it will NOT work in the USA. Is that due to only being two bands?
I look up those bands online and see many carriers do support 900/1800.
If anyone could explain this to me or point to a SIMPLE explanation I'd appreciate it.

Your Chinese phone does not work in the US because it is most likely a dual-band phone. China is on a 900/1800 GSM network, and US is 850/1900. The M8 will work in the US because it is a quad-band phone, meaning it will work on all four bands (850/900/1800/1900).
The eBay posting is mistaken because the M8 is a quad-band phone. Meizu just announced two bands (900/1800) so they can get away with some fees.Last edited by Blah; 01-24-2009 at 09:34 PM.

Thanked 3 Times in 3 PostsPerfect, thanks; I think I get it....
...although: why would my US phone work in China then (LG VX8700, CDMA2000 1X 1900/800 according to specs)?

Verizon is on a CDMA network, which is different than GSM. Also, 850/1900 is different than 1900/800.
You will need to switch to a GSM network if you want to use the M8. AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM.Last edited by Blah; 01-24-2009 at 09:47 PM.

Thanked 3 Times in 3 PostsOh okay. So if (when?) I get a M8, to use it in China and USA, I'd have to switch from Verizon to a GSM provider?
I believe they allow transfer of tel numbers these days, which would be a must.
In any event, thanks for making this understandable, blah.
Added: Ah, yes, I see you just mentioned that. Cool. And Danke!Last edited by Pig; 01-24-2009 at 09:52 PM. Reason: added
