Thanked 91 Times in 32 PostsSoftware for M8
Anyone know that M8 is base on Win CE and software resources for WinCE i think not that much compare to Windows M8.
For Same basic application like messenger, pdf , money mgmt, dictionary ,currency software, Stock market software or etc .. is required quite urgent after m8 is on market, offcouse some one will develop application for M8, but it take same time at least few month after SDK is out.
so anyone have good application which support WinCE, possible can be use in M8.
I just found 1 for messenger
imov Messenger - Universal Instant Messaging support
- Communicate with GoogleTalk™, AOL™, ICQ™, MSN™, Yahoo!™ and Jabber™ users!
imov Messenger
anyone know other application can list here.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI don't think you will be able to use normal WinCE/Windows Mobile applications on the M8, the changes are probably too severe and the system too locked down. Unless someone hacks the M8 I don't see it happen. Sorry.

Maybe Meizu will make some variants of software for us...
P.S. Sorry for my bad English

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI think the system will be open. They got a base which is WinCE and hosts lots op applications. Why on earth would J.Wong lock it down? He's not Steve Jobs, they got a system which fits perfectly for open development. Also, he somewhere said (CBA to dig up the source, sorry) that it will be possible to install normal applications.

Not that, but it has to be specialized for the M8. The touchscreen must be used, and maybe the accelerometer. The M8 does not have a keyboard and mouse that can be used in the same way that a computer's can be.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsDepends, WinCE has got a nice shell featurs, if the applications implemented this stuff the way it was supposed to be implemented (correct tags etc), the M8 should be able to bring up the keyboard when a text field is tapped.

Lets not forget that the M8's interface is based on Win CE 6.0 and as far as I am aware there are very few Win Ce 6.0 based devices even on the market. Considering the whole kernal was re-designed I'm not sure if older Win Ce apps would be supported either. Plus the fact there are probably very few Win CE 6.0 supported apps available in general not to mention all the probelsm that people have mentioned with the touchscreen etc.
Didn't Mr Wong say that there were planning an app store? I'm sure he also said they will be releasing the SDK. At the end of the day I'm sure all the basic type of apps that you find on most mobile platforms will be available on the M8 eventually...it just may take a bit of time.

Thanked 189 Times in 130 Postsi still cant understand why ce 6.0

like beeing told by sere83 it wont be easy to use ce built apps due the fact of touchscreen and other meizu redisgn of the kernel.
a sdk would be nice, but it takes long to come.
iff it was the basic idea , where is it? mostly they launch it before the device comes out to get tools on time in the air!
an app store would be nice, but it smells like money-money-money for every small app you want..
(beeing honest,i would be happy to have a bin file from the m8 firmware to sniff around! )

Thanked 29 Times in 16 Postsi think the answer is right there: they had to redisign the kernelt to make work with multitouch (which will only be supported in wimo7, whenever that comes out). and they probably didn't get the rights to do that with the much more popular wimo platform, or just simply didn't have the money to buy the rights. and there weren't that man platforms to choose from at the time of the start (wimo, wince, symbian, palm, BB -> wimo ruled out by me now, BB would surely not sell their OS, since it's their biggest advantage, palm is even using wimo on their own devices these days, their OS is almost dead, and symbian... interesting question, but maybe because of the hw supported in those /arm cpu-s/. well, there's also that redflag mobile, but chinese ppl don't really like linux for some reason)
that is my guess.略懂

Thanked 189 Times in 130 Posts@martijngp, youve got a point :P
why the hell would they comment it in english ;-)
@copernicvs, there are some other free mobile os in the world, iff they only used linux it would have saved them money on licence costs ...

Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post@copernicvs, evow04:
I think you misunderstood sere83. Meizu did not redesign the WinCE kernel, that wouldn't make any sense. I'm sure that what sere83 was referring to was that Microsoft itself did a complete kernel redesign from WinCE 5 (used on WinMo 6) to WinCE 6.
Anyway, a kernel redesign does not allways mean backwards incompatibility, as long as the APIs remain compatible. I'm just not sure if in this case the API's are really 100% compatible.

Thanked 29 Times in 16 Posts@evow04: yeah, i know linux would be a perfectly logical answer to the question, but still, chinese ppl don't really like using it. even some guys i know, who are studying software development, they prefer to work under windows... and so everything, and i really mean everything (from banking solutions to instant messaging) is optimized and developed for windows only.
@Traps: sorry, might be a misunderstanding, i'm not that much into these kernels myself

Well, a more user friendly version. Windows CE is kinda like a base to build on, many GPS's run Windows CE.
