    Questions for video playback!

    Hey,
I recently read the post about J. Wong's reply. In the Message he told about a smooth playback of Rmvb videos with a resolution of 720x480.
Problem is, i've got no rmvb videos. But I have many movies with a resolution of 720x480 but in DIVX compression. Will the m8 be able to play that, too?

And what's about AC3 support, is there a downmixing option?

Sorry if these are stupid questions, but I couldnt answer these by reading the last threads.

There's no specific information about supported fileformats yet... But I think it should handle divx movies. Testers reported it's capable of playing back avi, mpeg, mkv, and rmvb videos.

As I understand there is WindowsCE on M8, and it means that we can install any software on it, including different Media players. Am I right?
I hope you can understand me -_-
P.S. Sorry for my bad English

Thats correct. But we need to get inside WinCE, it's not sure that Meizu let us do that, but it's just a question of time before someone hack it.

FLV is also supported, but you have to download it first (there's no streaming function yet). I think youtube uses that format too.

The main question is thus whether the m8 has support for adding codecs. As it is totally unknown how open the platform will be, it's unknown.

Am I the only one thinking that needing a "jailbreak" to fix the WiFi and potentially make the platform more open is pretty ironic and funny? Meizu was supposed to be the 100% open guy..

Well it is against the law to have WiFi if you are planning to sell your phone in China. Do you think they supercede the law?

Yeah. It's not against the law to have a removable battery, but in China it's illegal to have enabled Wi-Fi integrated into cellular devices. People would use it to bypass phone service. It's kind of like using the Sony Mylo & Skype for free calls.

What do you mean free calls? Then If i had an iPhone, I could make calls for free?
If you are having trouble with your player, please visit this thread first and try the steps before you panic. Most likely you will be able to fix your player easily using the steps listed.

He could paste his entire novel in...

I suggest making an add-on for this forum which allows spoiler tags, like the ones I have at my forum (Click to see what I mean).

I'm not too knowledgeable on the subject, but I don't think you can do it with the iPhone without jailbreaking it because it's very closed.

Have you ever heard of the Sony Mylo? Free calls via Skype, but there are restrictions that apply.

You and the person you're calling must have Skype and be connected to the internet.

Here you go, something I found:
"With the integrated wireless LAN, you won't have to worry about monthly bills or long-term contracts--just connect to any open Wi-Fi network and start chatting with friends using AIM, Google Talk, or Yahoo! Messenger. You can also browse the Web as well as send and receive email. Enjoy free Internet phone calls to and from any Skype enabled device and PC anywhere in the world, or Skype-Out to any phone number for a nominal fee."

yes, that is the point of voip
but even if you are not using a free service, it's really cheap to call China for example. doesn't matter if it's landline or mobile, i can call it for 1毛 every minute (that's 1 eurocent). but if the ppl you are calling is also online, then it can be free of course. the only backdraw is that you have to find a wifi hotspot in order to be so cheap, or have some data plan at your MSP anyway.
and it shouldn't be sugin much data anyway, for me it's about 100 minutes of talk for about 1MB of data transferred.

On the iPhone, the App store Fring app enables skype-calls over WiFi. A jailbreak is needed to install a tweak to make Fring work with any other connection.

Well, the iPhone needs jailbreaking as well and is 100% not open. I don't see your point.

It's indeed smart to use skype. Best would be to integrate Skype into the phone application. That way you can have the application check whether WiFi is available, if that's the case it would use the direct Skype connection, if the contact doesn't have Skype it would use the SkypeOut option, if WiFi is not availble it would do a normal call.

My point being here that some people disliked having to hack for extra features. The m8 was supposed to be 100% open, no cut-off features or anything.

@Steve: True but it was a bit strange to advertise with WiFi in the first place when you know it's illegal. They could have known beforehand not being able to sell globally, for whatever reason.

Well the Wi-Fi is still there isn't it? Why isn't the M8 100% open?
