Well even though it's just like I feared from the beginning (increasing price on launch, dropping of key promised features), I am still interested in this phone. I have been keeping my eye out on the phone scene but not many other things interest me to be honest.

I too hope they get the anticipated reputation, because it's still going to be a high-end phone except it's not 3G. I for one doesn't care about that, just include the wifi and I'm all over it
    Good Luck Meizu!
    M8 FTW!

hope meizu will realize JW dream i think there is a lot of chances that the m8 becomes a sucess like the m6 and the m3 above all in china but for that we need good software updates with real improvements in the future after the release of the m8.

in fact i think the first version of the M8 wont be a succes(in Europe) But the second one, with GPS and 3G, and some improved features, it definiatly will be. Its going to be the perfect solution for those who want a high-grade mp3 player melted with a mobile phone.

The only real disadvantage is the absence of 3G. Yet, 2G is workable, especially with a decent browser and a low quality image mirrorserver. Only problem is listening music streams (last.fm) or watching video (youtube), it will stutter. The GPS is also a loss, yet 3G is more important to me. It happens more of then that I would like my phone to have 3G than GPS.

Anyway, I think it's a great phone and I really hope it'll be succesful. This will encourage Meizu to hurry with the 2nd generation, which I will also buy if I like the first one (and can sell it for a decent price).

Only - point for me is no build in GPS. Hope Meizu will come up with their second version soon including GPS. At my school almost no one knows what the M8 is. A friend of mine needs a new mobile phone so I said maybe the M8 is something for you. He'll buy it soon. I wont buy it at the release date because of my financial situation. End of the year is always an expensive period I want to buy it between January and Febuari.

i'm not really concearned about these losses. GPS, i used it only once in my phone, and it drains the battery like nothing else. anyway, you can use a bluetooth receiver with the phone, which is very likely faster, and uses less power.
3G is a funny thing, here where i live it's still quite expensive to use mobile data connections, so i keep it turned off in my phone, to spare the battery. if there's wifi around, then 3G is a loser in my opinion.
the only thing i hope is that there will be a nice voip software for this phone (something like nimbuzz would be nice for example), and a dictionary, i'll be happy with that.

anyway, i'm really looking forward to this phone now, altough there are other intersting stuff coming up too, but all of them have a much higher price tag...
    so go Meizu, go!

At my school, I (for as far as I know) was the first one to own a Meizu M6. Now you see them fairly frequently. I've met someone at the train station who had a M6 and a M3 with him, was wearing one of those Meizu shirts and had an 'AnythingButIpod' patch on his backpack :P

It's not that popular here in Hungary either. I rarely see one. Maybe because it's price tag (it's getting cheaper though), and people have no idea about Meizu quality

yep :D when they ask about the brand of my mp3 player and i say Meizu, they have no clue what it is. and when i say its chineese, i see a smile on their faces thats the moment when i tell them to look at some reviews, to find out a chineese stuff can be awesome, too. anyway, i dont really care about it. many of my schoolmates have ipods, which sux imo. sometimes i ask them to let me listen to it, just to realize that my meizu sounds way much better

actually ppl around here mostly go for the cheapest player available, caring little about sound quality. that's why there are a lot of Telestar, and such products on the street, or just use their mobiles for music.
the other problem is that (just like a lot of other brands), there's not official distributor for Meizu products, you can only buy them in some smaller private sales facilities. and of course the price is higher than in China, due to the fact that they have to give some warranty, have to translate the manual all by themselves, and also have to pay to artisjus, asva and such companies for distributing music players. so the local prices are about double of the chinese ones...

I don't really care about 3G or GPS. They're not useful to me and are battery drainers. 3G is still to expensive in the US and the coverage is not good. I don't think I would ever use GPS, I haven't really used it on my G1. It's interesting that even though it's been in development for 2 years, the specs make it one of the best phones out there. It is defininitely the best phone out there if you consider in the price. The HTC Touch HD looks amazing but that's probably going to be 2x the price.
