J.wong: M8 will be published at Nov.30
J.wong makes sure M8(China Version) will be published at Nov.30
now he is waiting for license, if he cannot get it , he will publish M8 as test version to users in the end of Nov.

and about Wifi:
china goverment forbid wifi mobile selling in china , so M8 china version has no wifi software support
J.Wong's M8 marketing strategy:
1. China /India , publish in Nov, with no wifi (maybe with wifi-chip but no driver)
2. HongKong/Europ/US, maybe before 12.24, with wifi(ensure)
Price:
M8 8GB=2380RMB about 340USD$
M8 16GB=2880RMB about 411USD$

so many chinese wait for the HongKong version , and will buy the smuggle form HK.

Will the first one with no Wi-Fi have an actual Wi-Fi chip? Or will it be software disabled?

In fact All mobiles(including Nokia/moto..) selling in china have cut off the wifi chip, goverment will check it in lab,and then give you the license.
Now J.wong is waiting for goverment's license, but J.Wong post :that is WAPI-chip not wifi-chip , maybe this is words he cheat to goverment, and he cant give more explaination about wifi.
so I guess the first M8 have wifi-chip(named WAPI-chip) but no software.

Only for the M8 sold in China, wifi driver will not be delivered. J.Wong said that there will be WAPI driver provided after M8 released to market. The hardware between WAPI and WIFI is the same, only the driver is different.

And we're famous again because of Engadget...
J.Wong's M8 marketing strategy:
1. China /India , publish in Nov, with no wifi (maybe with wifi-chip but no driver)
2. HongKong/Europ/US, maybe before 12.24, with wifi(ensure)
I'm not sure where the author got this information, but JW never said anything about launching the M8 in India, that was just some bogus news...
Also he said they are only focusing on the chinese market currently, so no Europe, US, HK for now...

That's the conclusion you came to?
JW said the second version of the M8 will make more sense to export to Europe, USA...

He'll probably never confirm the wifi chip is present, because it's not legal in china, so he doesn't want to get into any trouble. It will be hard enough to get the license...
Earlier he said many times they will hide the wifi by software (not providing the driver for it to work).

so prolly the same hardware but different software,
so we buy a china/india version, wait untill launch HongKong/Europ/US
version and install this firmware on our device to activate wifi? (= me is evil? ;-) )

What about CDMA?? Comeon, i have been tracking this for a very long time. Very disappointing for us SPRINT users. I will check with my local store if they can adjust their network on to the GSM network. I've heard some people had it work.
