Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIf the WLAN is disabled they could at least include a RJ-45 port :P
But seriously - I strongly doubt the driver will not make it the way out on the internet somehow.
I don't think anyone will make a unofficial driver, as it require specs of both the Nanoradio chip and the Meizu M8 itself.
However we KNOW there is a official driver, and it will leak.
Either someone inside Meizu will leak it, or someone with a beta device will leak it.
I am, however, conerned about when the driver will leak. One thing is for sure, I'm not buying one until a driver is aviable.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWhat's the big deal with Wifi anyways; spotty and only useful at home or having to steal someone's free wifi in the city which is usually impossible, and even if you could, it wouldn't be possible to walk around. I'd much rather use the EDGE option, although I would've preferred to have 3g.

in france wi-fi is starting to be available in malls and streets so for us it is important. 3G is still very expensive here.

This is just getting ridiculous, I can't be bothered to even comment on this anymore. I am just going to wait and see what meizu come out with. Wong says so much stuff that it is hard to tell what will even be included in the phone! I wouldn't be suprised if Meizu release a banana with GPS and a kitchen sink instead!
At the end of the day no one will really know if there will be proper engllish menus, wifi drivers, an international version or when and where it will be available. So until I hear an official announcement/press release or see a proper review then i'm not going to get all het up over another one of Wong's confusing posts.Last edited by sere83; 11-01-2008 at 02:47 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsFor myself the Meizu m8 is finished. I'll wait for HTC touch HD with android, and i think it'll be released before the meizu will be.The cool thing is that it will be faster even with slower processor, cause of android.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIt *will* have WiFi. Just read before you complain.
1. On the screenshots it shows a wireless icon. On other screens it gave an icon with a "G" on it which most likely refers to a 2G connection. Meaning the other wireless icon must be WiFi as Bluetooth is a different icon and no other regular wireless connections exist. This means the device is build to go on WiFi.
2. The beta testers report WiFi working
3. It makes no sense at all the remove the chip with the WiFi on it because it's most likely on the same chip or controller as the BT connection is on. Meizu won't change the chip because it's working now and changing the chip would mean new delays as those chips are generally hardcoded in the software. Also, changing it would mean another beta round. So let's assume the WiFi chip is still in there by the time we can get it in Europe. JW didn't say it wouldn't be in there either.
4. Meizu has done the trick before on the M6. Remember the European versions of the M6 by Dane-Elec, they didn't have FM Radio enabled because of license issues. Meizu just supplied the driver afterwards with a note daying it wasn't for Dane-Elec players to keep the license guys happy. We all know that Meizu did this to have FM anyway. With WiFi, this is exactly the same thing. It won't ship but Meizu will just publish a driver and say it shouldn't be used. Problem solved as we use it anyway (and Meizu knows that).
5. If Meizu doesn't provide the driver, we'll just fetch it from a phone with a similar chip running WinCE. We force it onto the M8 and we're most likely done. If not, there are lots of people who are willing to hack it in there and as the system is both open and very common this will be done within a few days, if not hours.
5. JW isn't stupid. While he doesn't focus ont he foreign market now, the guy surely knows there is a lot of money to get in Europe which he won't get if he leaves out WiFi.
Convinced? I'm not worried a single bit about WiFi. The only thing that botters me is the fact that we didn't have any screenshots of the English interface so far.

The english interface is still under construction as I said before.

We have a handful of translators here, so translating the interface shouldn't be too hard. It just requires changing a skin.
The only thing I am concerned about is how do you fix a bricked M8? It's WinCE based, so that brings up a concern for me. It's not even what they call a Meizu OS. It's just a whole different shell for it, and a skin.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI think it'll be easier to fix when it runs on WinCE. At least, with WinCE you know how the system is going to respond on things and you know what NOT to do. Also, you most likely know where to find stuff when a certain part of the OS bricks. With the M6, it's a lot harder. Nobody knows exactly which software runs on it. The only thing that we know is that the kernel is not WinNT, nor Linux. Having a familiar system will make it much easier to fix things.
The only problem is how you are gonna fix things if it won't boot up anymore, but I guess we'll manage to get some DFU Tool for M8 as well.

You're going to use the Windoze Recovery Console. Or perhaps format c. Like, holding the M plus camera button (or sth like that) while booting up will act as F8.

Fixing a bricked M8 shouldnt be that hard, since WinCE is an open OS, and everybody knows how it works and what not to do. Unlike a Bricked iPhone, where apple made a totally custom mobile OS, which almost nobody knows how to fix it.
Even if there is no Engrish interface, it can be easily translated and put as a new skin. Im sure there will be people (like me) that are willing to do these things.

At first I thought there would be no Wi-Fi chip in the M8. I think the Wi-Fi will be enabled, probably through hackers if not Meizu.

Right.. Because the Windows CE/Mobile is way more 'open source' than OS X on the iPhone? Looool?!?
The device will probably be recoverable if it has been bricked, But it depends on the extent..
Badly damaged boot blocks mean a device wont be able to be restored, most of the time.
Apple customers have a big advantage in bricked iphones , Every iPhone is pratically the same. This means its extremely easy to recover a bricked iPhone, because there are entire communities built, with hundreds of people having the exact same problem as you, So a solution is always there.
There will no doubt be an English interface on the M8, I wouldn't worry about that at all.Click the little (+/-) button next to someone to reward or punish someone
