Similar question to you, by your standards what makes the iphone/touch GUI innovative? I have an ipod touch and have used the 2nd gen iphone extensively so I'm fairly sure I have a good insight in this discussion.

Apple iPhone
Don't get us wrong, it's not a bad product, but the hype that preceded the iPhone's release set the bar impossibly high for the poor thing. Forget about shepherds turning up at a manger, the iPhone had hip Apple fans all over the country camping out for days to get their hands on one. Despite a relatively smooth launch, the original iPhone still had a number of huge disappointments waiting in store for the less-than-faithful who weren't willing to overlook them, like pitifully slow EDGE Internet that rendered the slick browser less than useful, and a clunky abomination of a keyboard that irks us to this day.
One Laptop Per Child XO-1 (OLPC)
It pains us to mention such a well-intentioned project alongside so many products built to empty wallets, but there's no question that the XO-1 has failed to live up to its pre-launch hype. Not only did the original $100 price tag fly out the window well before the machines ever reached reality, they were also off-schedule and failed to really catch hold in many third world countries. Even the concept of putting computers into the hands of children seemed to fall apart at the seams when it turned out kids were using the first OLPC batches to look at inappropriate sites. We'll give Nicholas Negroponte's vision some credit when Ethiopia becomes the next Silicon Valley.
Optimus Maximus Keyboard
Hopefully this monstrosity taught bloggers not to get quite so excited about press photos and mock-ups. Yes, it looked like just about the coolest, most versatile peripheral ever invented when news of it first spread, but as we discovered when we tested it out, the thing is barely usable in real life. The only keyboard we can really think of that's any worse would be the aforementioned iPhone keyboard. There's also the price, which makes us cringe when we think about the poor art students who scrimped and saved for one only to pull it out the box and realize they had accidentally ordered a worthless novelty.

Could you link the source next time or at least quote it?

1. change song button design like that, because we want make it defferent with other phone, show the other design style.
2. on playing music went LCD is off ， still can go to next song just press next button on Earphone， very convenient.
3. on Shake changing song, will have miss operation, not suitable for Sport user, for not miss operation, need use big power to shake, because want to change song need use power to shake look like very stupid, in library, station, street, shopping mall you will use shake to change song ?
4. Although resolution is 480 class, but M8 LCD is small, pixel is very small, went zoom out look not so bad went compare to computer display.

On another note, is that engineer guy saying that the "shake to change song" feature will not be included with the M8 because it would look funny doing it in a library/station/mall/street?

I think so, and he's probably right I don't need that function, it looks silly.

The iPhone keyboard types pretty comfortable unless you have huge fingers and are not that pro with typing to begin with. Autocorrection automatically corrects any typing-errors you might make, with a small hindrance if you typing duallingual and left it on the wrong language.

My "*fanboymode*" opinion is that it works fine, if you hate it than don't try the m8 as the screen there is even smaller.

Who needs so high resultion on mobile phone for video. Most of us surely downloads their movies by bittorent protocol. Scene release R5 has resultion around 640 x 272 and R1 (dvdrip) has resultion aroun 640 x352 and it looks fine stretched on my 1680 x 1050 also higher qulity is too huge for memory. Fuck that licence JW don´t pay them and release it....

haha，actually in meizu forum, alot people already ask JW for new demo video JW still not yet provide it. And English interface already ask JW to capture but so far no reply from JW.

I agree on this shaking feature not being included. It looks stupid. The recent iPod's have it and it's a waste of time and money. Some Apple fanboys like it offcourse, btu that's mainly because Steve said it's good. You see them take their iPod out of their pocket, shake it and put it back in. I, with my M6 know where my M6 is in my pocket and I switch songs by pressing the button right through my pants. Sounds way easier to me.

And about the video, I sure don't need such a resolution. Those small resolutions will still look nice because of the pixel density on the M8. I'd prefer to have smaller video's as that will save quite a lot of space.

JW:went M8 design 720*480 high resolution LCD display, that give our R & D department brings the high difficulty challenging。 hardware spec also no choise to upgrade to next level, everytime facing difficulty i feel quite regret on my early Decision。


finally problem one-by-one solved, every person seeing M8 for first time sure will said " so clear " event UI engineer also shocking said that is best display ever see. feels at heart finally gratified。


ofcouse if this resolution using in bigger screen maybe more able to perhaps manifest its advantage.

many thanks for all the screen shots guys, looks amazing! I had a feeling that the 720x480 display would have caused problems, I really hope it doesn't completle ruin any chance of decent battery life. It is only recently that we have started to see the large manufacturers using high resolutions on these small sub 4 inch displays, the M8 along with the SE Xperia and the HTC Touch HD will have the largest pixel density of any displays on the market.

The iphone display is very very sharp as it is and is lower res and probably less colours too, I can't even imagine what this will look like! Not to mention the fact it is LTPS and 16 million colours! Even the HTC touch HD and SE xperia will only have 65,000 colours as they are winmo handstes and they will not be LTPS either!

I really hope they manage to ship with wifi as the web experience could be one of the best around with the high res display.
