Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsJ. Wong has to get this thing out the door, before more people lose enthusiasm and defect to Iphone G3 or the G1. They have to augment the current design and features of the phone with features from the Iphone G3 and G1 in order to stay competitive. They have to stay neck and neck with them.
Bottom line, may be this sounds like a gripe, but I think they gotta get this M8 out into the hands of consumer before it dies out of resources.
With regard to J. Wong's reply page: http://www.meizume.com/minione-m8/70...alot-info.html
I hope they put in Tranditional Chinese and English. The Simplied Chinese is not Chinese.
gKai said "no memory slot is a big dissapointment". This is a like a death nail on the coffin, I hope they are kidding.
Webserver Technotop Internetdiensten said "no GPS or 3G..." That's not good. Iphone 3G has it and so does the Tmobile's G1. This is going to be a BIG disappointment.
>>after m8, we will develop a 3000++rmb 3G version and will have all funtion.
There will be no incentive to wait. By the time it comes out, there will be more Android based smart phones to choose from with more features, and for a typical consumer, I don't have to worry about buying it from an importer(warranty will be iffy too), which will probably cost me $500 to get just the 8 GB and even if I can get the 16GB, the fact is, it will be too little too late. This great product will be out-featured by competitors and it will be DOA (dead-on-arrival). This is a real shame.
Traps said: "GPS was never a promised feature. It was only mentioned once, and only as an integration with an external device.. so I really don't get the complaints there. I understand it would be a nice to have, but why should it be necessary at all?"
Because for the same price, almost all the new smart phone has it, it's like getting a standard feature. Even my Moto Q, which costed 199 usd has it and it's a great feature to have.
Looking at this now, how does it expect to compete with Android based phones? Android is free and Microsoft's mobile OS is not.
These all add up to BAD news.

When ever was there supposed to be a memory slot? When Jack Wong first released the specs in February 2007? There aren't many smart phones with a memory card slot. And even the ones with a memory slot fail in other parts. What phone has a 720x480 LTPS LCD? 800MHZ processor? 256MB RAM? Name some decent competitors, other than the iPhone, and say why they are better than the M8. GPS would kill your battery life. If you want GPS, buy an attachment. Your Moto Q doesn't have specs anywhere near the M8's, so you can't compare them. The M8 needs a faster processor for it's 720x480 LCD.

It's like comparing apples to bananas, they have different tastes, looks, colors, and just are completely different. How is an apple better than a banana, and vice-versa?

I've been living in China since 2006 [Wuhan, Hubei Province] and what's this about no wifi in devices? I bought a PSP-2000 here and it has wifi in it... Of course I think it "fell off the boat" on it's way to Japan since the box says "Not to be sold outside Japan" on it.
Iphone 2g and 3Gs are sold here too, of course they're smuggled in through Hong Kong.
I also see WIFI Routers and notebooks being sold here... So is this just in cell phones?

I'm guessing so. Same thing I saw when I was there.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsActually, OpenGL ES is definately available as a 3D API for WinCE. Also there is a DirectX version for WinCE. 3D's possible for it, but of course PC games won't run. Emulators are definately creatable and I think there might be ones that could run already on it even. Games specifically created for WinCE will run well, and the M8 being a device with the highest power among mobile phones or PDAs, it probably would run any existing WinCE game fine.
The USB-OTG feature seemed like fun tho, too bad that was removed...
In my oppinion the 30% in the online shop is okay. Freeware programs will still be free and this way they give a good online database for any programs created for the M8 which helps distributing creations very much. Even for paying programs, the help in distribution will probably make up for the 30% price taking from the income. Same thing for the money management.

The government still hasn't decided how to implement the WiFi standard for mobile phones, so phone manufacturers agree to disable/not implement the function. Beyond the technical details, you have to figure they're nervous as heck about the whole thing. It's a mighty big leap from the upwardly mobile lounging in coffee bar hotspots to (in theory) much of the population suddenly able to browse the Internet with their mobile phones.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsLike most people here, i've been following the M8 news with great expectation ever since it was announced a year or two ago - and have relished every JWong announcement. . .I'm happy to wait until it's ready (no point in shipping out a 1/2 baked product), but Geronimo has pretty much said what I've been thinking as of late (and i guess others too?). . .
The moments after the M8 was announced was the perfect time to release it. . .heck, maybe even a few months ago would have been fine. . .but it's gotten to a stage where the M8 is bordering on Duke Nukem Forever in that even if it was released today, I suspect it would already be seen as 'yesterdays tech'. . .assuming that this gets released in the next 6 months with iphone/android/<every other phone co. getting into the act> I can only see the M8 worth getting if either a) it's price point is much lower than it's competitors or b) it gets features on par with the competition at the time it is released.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI'm somewhat disappointed. So I'm not able to install regular WinCE or WinMobile applications? Damn. That makes the thing pretty much uninteresting to me. Nice that they did the effort to develop all the nice frontend, but now I start to think they should just make the hardware for an Android phone and not bother about software at all. If only the G1 wasn't so expensive...

I guess due to all the protection stuff it will be hard to install Android?
