Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsAFAIK, it should barely cost anything to Meizu, apart from providing some specs to opensource developers (and even that is not certain).
Phones have become much more standard lately (ARM9 inside most new ones), basically I am sure m8 is already able to run Android as it is, the effort would be limited to maybe graphic acceleration, or some specificities of the Samsung proc, and probably other specialized chips (sound maybe, and probably the various wireless controlers (usually the most delicate thing, cause there is reluctancy to share knowledge with Opensource developer, for fear of messing-up the networks)). But again, I would be surprised if Samsung engineers will not be eager to provide some of that, at least if Android is sucessfull. And I would be surprised if the other chips do not already have some kind of linux support somewhere...
But I agree there may be another factor: Microsoft may provide license for CE cheaper provided no other OS is installed. They can even forbid dual-booting. I would not be surprised they have such conditions, or evenstart providing CE/Mobile for free provided it is not replaceable, given that they are currently loosing market share and they start from a position much less dominant than on the Desktop... ;-)Last edited by gkai; 10-03-2008 at 08:30 PM.

Of course it CAN run Android - but dual booting is probably not possible.
Most phones store their OS on a ROM, and to change OS you'll have to flash that ROM - so either WinCE or Android.
Flashing the ROM is usually something that voids your warranty :P
Android will not run on the M8 out of the box.
Of course it can be made compitable, but I strongly doubt there are enough open source devs interested in this project to even make it possible.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThat's not the main problem.
Getting a device ready to run an OS is a big amount of work, and Meizu haven't even finished their main OS.
They'd have to write lots of drivers and develop other software etc. Open source could help in others developing some software, however I'm sure there are things Meizu wouldn't want publicly known. So that keeps the point up, they'd need lots of software development work for the other system to run on the M8.

Apart from this delivery of the M8.
Meizu could see opted to install Android, because when we were creating it was still not very mature. With the passage which would have been faster. Since we had the idea and concept and the whole line to follow.
A code with the Apache 2 license, no license costs, a growing community and many Google applications preinstalled. Applications in Java (lots of them), major brands in games are going to create games designed for them, the utility Android Market ....
Had it launched this year, the operator China Mobile (partner in the Open Handset alliance) would echo him with a good offer which could see many units produced. (HTC with China Mobile)
On the choice of a Windows CE is not bad, but the license is the license and development over from scratch.
Another question, how are the applications of Adobe flash player that his license is free and silverlight mobile as well.
Players that open source is the only thing that would have to adapt to the M8.
If a customer had given development tools (SDK, Skin Meizu) to the community both Meizu how to meizume now have many programs that would be better, as it could be improved and create elements that could never have been possible.
I hope that while developing the next version of the M8, with "Windows Mobile 7" destined for a development group to see Android (ID).
But this is my opinion.
A j.Wong if I read it, which I think does not lose much time, I am willing to cooperate in the marketing campaign of the M8, but the marketing is already established, since community is talking about him and blog, with our friends and even with the Apple faboy speaking ill of him (but it's free advertising).
Needless to make millionaire publicity but an idea that is simple and it reaches around the world.Last edited by Suriv; 10-06-2008 at 10:25 PM.

Thanked 189 Times in 130 Postsi do not agree, the main idea on android concept is an os that can be applied on all phones with a minimum on customizing things.
android is financed by big phone companys, so iff Meizu wants the android to be used i´m guessing that they will need to join this club.
But chance is that they will be rejected cause still every one thinks it is an iphone clone. (just guessing)
eum... im not that technical in software cause hardware is more my thing, but according the iphone it seems possible to dualboot(with own apple software) that device. so why could it not be done with m8?@gkai
Of course it CAN run Android - but dual booting is probably not possible.

interest will not be a main concern cause there are a lot of fanboys, and those are not so stupid ..
i do agree it will not be so easy to do. but they made a working rom before android was even out (!!!!!!)
that run on HTC devices... so it can be done fore sure...

well, personally I would like to see what Meizu has done with their CE 6.0 based proprietry OS before even thinking anything about Android. I have to admit I was very underwhelmed by what I saw from the G1. Aesthetically google have done a very poor job IMO. Fair enough it is open source, the notification bar is nice and the apps store and gmail intergration looks good but that is about it. I mean video playback must be done through 3 rd party apps! what the hell is that about? are they having a joke? the music player looks unbeliavably weak too, very poorly designed. I find that incredible considering the continued focus on multi-media in todays cell phone market.
It looked very very average to me. Personally I don't understand the hype at all, most of what it does can be done on all other platforms already (WinMo, symbian, OSX etc). I was expecting a whole lot more particularly on the aesthetics front, it looks very dated. In time I think it will certainly get better and may prove to be a great OS, but at the moment it is very early days and while Meizu's OS may not turn out to be as polished I am still very interested to see what they bring to the table.
Lets bare in the mind the fact that the M8 will be one of, if not the first phone any where to have an OS built on a WIn CE 6.0 foundation. It looks very promising from the video and certainly appears to be more interactive and aesthetically pleasing than Android, plus all the rich media functionality.Last edited by sere83; 10-07-2008 at 02:43 PM.

Thanked 189 Times in 130 Postsi´m following you on that one Sere83,
but beeing honest to myself i liked what i saw on the android movie.
it seems cool to have an open os there that you can bring to a newer phone without large changements.
but on the other side the the movie from meizu os seems pretty nice
...just ... im a bit doubtfull iff it will work like i want , morely after owning a few win based phones :sLast edited by evow04; 10-07-2008 at 03:44 PM. Reason: edit : best thing is to be patience, time will say :-)
