The thing that amazes me is the fact that when Meizu started developing the M8 it was dismissed by most people as just a cheap iphone clone. Even now the mainstream media still views it in this respect. However when you actually look at the innovation, thought and care that has gone into this device you realise that what Wong and Meizu have done is actually incredible.

While huge mullti national corporations like HTC are still sticking janky poorly implemented interfaces on top of dated, tired and convoluted platforms like Windows Mobile 6.1 in an attempt to bring this dinosaur up to date, a small Mp4 player manufacturer from China has built a completely new interface and cutting edge piece of hardware basically from scratch based upon a platform that no other company in the world has realy started using in cell phones yet (Win CE 6.0).

The hardware itself is also an amazing achievement when you consider they have never even built a cell phone let alone such an advanced and complex user interface (something that Apple had many many years of experience in prior to developing the Iphone).

Companies like Meizu really do illustrate the evolution of tech companies in China. In 20 years or even less, I think most of the biggest tech companies in the world will be Chinese.

Also the M8 will be bundled with a flannel bag.

I couldn't agree with you more. I can't understand how some people still saying that it's a cheap iphone clone with no innovation whatsoever.

all of this looks absolutely gorgeous, i really hope they will be available in europe soon, i cant wait much longer!
the screen looks so incredibly sharp, its an amazing resolution for such small screen, i only hope that the brightness in the sun will be good, but i've not seen many screens that score good at this, so i wouldnt really find it a big deal if the brightness is a little bit low...

it feels to me like meizu is the only company that is actually pushing the limits of the current technology to develop a truly marvel wich contains all the latest technology, i'm hoping that there will be a decent battery life, and no nasty surprises like the stuttering issue on the m6.

    Gimmeh!

    Looks like its completely finished.
    I'd say: Release!
After that: Get working on the 3G & GPS version and get it to Europe!

i honestly dont think i will be able to wait for the 3g version before i get one, i'm hoping that they will be available for sale on ebay for a good price soon!
there is still no release date, but i think they must be pretty close looking at the state of the device currently, perhaps they are still working on the video playback (b-frames or somthing?), wich was a problem that was reported to be still present, but i think they could just as well try to fix it in a firmware update, wich we'll probably get in a few months after the release of the device (to make it faster/ more stable).

JW said they are working on power consumption optimizing. I think the only thing holding back the release date is getting the mobile license. And also they're waiting on the testers to make sure there isn't any hardware bugs. They can perfect the software after release (with basic functions working).

I like the new icon for video. It looks better than the red TV icon they had in the video. Also, the calendar icon has also changed for the better too (rounded corners instead of square ones). I think all of these small changes here and there show us that Meizu is really trying hard to pay attention to detail and quality.

On the 3rd page - there's a picture of the M8 with JW's son on it. What does the lightning symbol inside of the battery meter signify?

Probably means fully charged cause it looks like its plugged in on the bottom, its similar to the battery symbol on ipods

yeah definitely agree, they are really paying attention to detail which will hopefully mean that they will also iron out any major FW issues before the release too.

Looks great, but does it still have the accelerometer (tilt sensor) because it needs that.

Not necessarily, as phones such as the Orange HiPhone use a button to switch screen orientation. Nonetheless, last time I checked the M8's specs, it has an accelerometer.

Hopefully they get the license soon and also that all the features like accelerometer and light sensor are still included. This is looking so awesome now and I can't wait to get it. I am also looking forward to someone mistaking it for the iphone and me correcting them and say: no no no, this is phone actually has features worthwhile.
