video playback looks pretty smooth in the video, i want to know what it does with a 720*480 pixels video at high bitrates, guess the battery will be drained very fast when viewing movies in that resolution, and these files will take a lot of space ... (is there microsd slot in m8?)

The menus are significantly faster than some of the iPhone firmware I have tried.

yes, the processor of the m8 is also a lot faster, only downside is battery life, since faster processor means more power consumption... (i would love to see a HD-video of the m8, where we can enjoy the 720*480 screen, becouse in this video we do not see the good sharp resolution)

Maybe it was filmed with its own M8 video camera.

At least it has a video capturing functionality. Not including that in the default firmware for the iPhone is unacceptable.

It's prefect, only needs to be more responsive. It lags a little!

yes, and i really wish they put a microsd slot on it, so we can expand the memory, since these 720*480 videos will take a lot of space

I have to say, I am pretty impressed by what was shown in the video. The timing between touch and action/response is right on and I honestly only saw one or two lag spots. This is truely a nice piece of technology.

Saying that though, I wonder how response time will be as your start to fill up the phones memory. Will it start to lag when have 50% of the internal memory used up? Also What happened to the EICO designed logos. They are no where to be seen in this video.

Lastly, for now, mr. wong does seem to have alot of girls on his phone...

    ...NICE!!!

"Also What happened to the EICO designed logos. They are no where to be seen in this video."

You can see this right at the beginning of the video (the unlocking part). It's the Eico design. Also, I think you get to see more Eico stuff when you transfer data to the M8 or charge it.

Sorry I should have specified what I was talking about. I was talking about the set of main icons/home screen icons that they had designed first. Things like the camera logo and folder logo etc. here is the link to the page, also they have changed the title to show that they were 'beta versions'.

eico design - Meizu M8 Homescreen Icons (Beta version)

all jokes asides (although wongs soft porn is hilarious though!) after so long it actually makes me very happy to finally see it in action. The thing that all these apple fan boys and ignorant missinformed posters on engadget fail to realise is this device from what I have seen here will break new ground. Let me explain why....

When the iphone came along there is no doubt that it changed the game. The simple fact of the matter is there is no FULLY finger touched controlled cell phone interface on the planet from any manufacturer that can touch that of the iphone. It is simply in a league of it's own and beacuse of it's ease of use and it's advanced engineering and superior design people are willing to pay the high prices despite it's fairly low spec.

I have used the samsung i900 extensively and many other touch screen based cell phones and let me tell you that NO windows mobile based or symbian based or any other platform based finger touch screen cell phone available can match the iphones interface. The fact remains that windows mobile is built on dated architecture and was also originally made to be used with a stylus. It is also slow clunky and unresponsive. The other touch based cell phones offered by companies like LG and Samsung look archaic compared next to the iphone and lack both the processing power, advanced engineering, GUI design or originality and attention to detail of the iphone. There is no comparison.

Now while Meizu's marketing practices have been dubious at times and they do in many ways lack the sophistication in business practices that all the large companies have and have also tainted their reputation with the whole 'iphone clone' image and early clone renderings....certain facts remain. If the M8 is recieved well meizu a very small (in comparison) Chinese mp3 player manufacturer will be achieving a feat that NO other multi billion dollar company in the world has been able to achive to this point...and that is to make a fully finger touch controlled handset that actually has the potential to stand toe to toe with the iphone.

At the end of the day Meizu have obviously been influenced by Apple, but who else could they have taken inspiration from that would have been better? the answer....no one. Apple are now the innovators and trend setters of the tech world and more specifically the cell phone world weather you like it or not. Particularly when it comes to the amalgamation of design and tech. They simply blew the competition away with their vision, captured the publics imagination and made everything before look dated and old, leaving all these companies trying to play catch up. They push the boundaries and have showed innovation beyond what the likes of samsung, nokia and SE have......and that is what Meizu wanted to do with the M8.....so they followed the market leader (and by market leader I do not mean in sales terms).

Let us not forget a few things too. This is the first handset on the planet (I believe) to use Win CE 6.0 which will form the basis for microsofts next generation of mobile operating system, windows mobile 7.0. Lets also not forget this will (if it becomes a reality) also be the only handset in the world (I think) to have the ability to decode full DVD resolution video. In terms of raw power the M8 will also be the most powerful cell phone in the world.

I hope very much that the M8 lives up to the hype and from this video it looks very promising. If Meizu do deliver a great product it will not only be a great feat by the company but will IMO be symbolic of what we will see in the future from these smaller chinese tech companies. First they will master the basics, then they will imitate the major players (many are at this phase now) and eventually they will produce true innovation and surpass everything that came before, this will come abundantly clear over the next 20 years.
