    WinCE & WinMobile

For first I'm sorry for my english.

I know WinCE is not WinMobile, they are two complete different OS and are not compatible.

    The point is:
Why Meizu have choose to use WinCE in this fantastic smartphone?

    - WinCe is very poor about thirth part software, it's very difficult find something it work with this OS, also a GPS Software.

    - WinMobile have a great community, a lot of free software a lot of GPS Software compatible like TomTom or iGo.

I think if the M8 will sell only with WinCE at last I'll not buy it.

There is any possibility that Meizu will sell it also with WinMobile or the possibily to install WinMobile in the M8?

    thank you so much!

    Well

    WinMO is based on WinCE.

WinCE is less specialized, and i find it much better than WinMO.

Also, there is a lot of software for WinCE, and most WinMO software can easily be modified to fit WinCE.

Nope... what I mean is that any of this OS WinCE or WinMobile have to be better than WM 2003.

But... sorry no idea what WinCE is? it's possible to mount other applications on it?

I've also seen different sources claiming different things... but the "official" information from JW is that the M8 will use a modified version of Windows CE 6. In fact, to make it even more clear, there have even been some debates on the Chinese BBS with JW explaining the advantages of WinCE 6 over WM.

I think the sources that say WM are just doing clueless/poor journalism, and confusing people.

Wrong. Most WinCE applications will work (at least those made for a screen of similiar size). The "Meizu SDK" will probably just include custom GUI and multitouch.

    Why?

WinMO is basically WinCE with some libs removed and some added.
The advatages is that WinCE is very easy for Meizu to modify for their needs.

Because, in internet the software for CE is very poor, for WinMobile there are a lot of community and software for GPS like TomTom and iGo.

I really like the possibility to put WinMobile in Meizu M8, but if it impossible, i'll watch this community and the developement, and after i'll se if buy it.
Because there are a interesting smartphone by Eten, the DX900.
It's very complete, but have only 2,8'' and it have winMobile.

    I'll wait and I'll see...

Here it is. I think there was at least another thread about WinCE in the Chinese BBS, but it's hard to find anything there since I don't understand chinese.

Anyway, don't worry about supported software, there should be plenty of it. For example, the M8 internet browser will be Opera (a modified version of the latest Opera Mobile, I believe) which is cream of the crop among mobile browsers.

    thank you i'm reading...
but i'm not really sure about the words of JW.
    I don't understand all but:
I think it overstimed WindowsCE.. and it's not very clear becuase it tell the M8 will be base in WinCE but WinMobile is based in WinCE...

I'm asking to me if it will be posible to see M8 with Windows Mobile...

    Don't get confused:
    - Current Windows Mobile 6 is based on Windows CE 5,
    - Meizu M8 "OS" will be based on Windows CE 6,
    - Windows Mobile 7 will also be based on Windows CE 6.

Regarding M8 with Windows Mobile, Meizu have been/are developing drivers for WinCE 6... since WM7 will also be based on CE6, it's likely that the same drivers can be reused there and it should be easy to get the M8 working with Windows Mobile 7. That of course, if Meizu wants it.

However, to get WM6 running on the M8 would be harder, because the drivers are probably not compatible.. after all, even if CE6 features a high backwards compatibility at the API level, the kernel is different.

Anyway, looking to the future (which is always better), WM7 seems like a very good and possible alternative.
