Meizu Fans: Now, can M8 play RMVB? it's quite important!
J.Wong :If it's QVGA, quite good, but if it's VGA, not good, and we are not sure how to deal with it now, maybe it needs some advance in hardware!
We must test it first, only if we can really make it prefect would we apply for the accredit from RM company!

Meizu Fans:we should make it clear that whether the NVIDIA Tegra support B frame ,if NVIDIA is not sure either, don't spend so much time on it now, making M8 come into the market as soon as possible is the kingcraft!!
J. Wong :Yes, in fact NVIDIA is not sure either.. the surface spec doesn't make sense. I've felt that I had been deeply cheated..

Meizu Fans: How is the M8's playing effect(on videos)
J.Wong : Cann't be nicer! M8 benefits from its 720*480 screen... its effect is much nicer than normal Mp4 players and iphone

rmvb video quality is usually quite poor. I hope they are not planning on making that the main supported format. If this doesn't support .avi/divx/xvid then i will be sorely disappointed

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsi disagree, rmvb can be quite good. more important for me is so called matruska video or .mkv but i didn't see anyone mentioning it here so i probably won't be watching mkv on m8

mkv is quite good but it is not as widely used as avi.
Almost every video file i have on my pc is avi and thats hundred's of GB worth. Real media is not great. it is not a good format and it is not used too much. I don't even think here in china it's used much any more.

Man that is sh*t!!! the M8 cannot even decode RMVB above 320x240!!!!! that is lterally appaling. You can buy sh*t cheap ass chinese pmps that can do this easily. Tbh it sounds like the M8 is getting worse and worse by the day. I mean one of my main reasons for buying was not having to re-encode video. I could have bought an iphone If I wanted to to this. At least you can rely on the iphone to playback 1 format smoothly at resolutions up to 640x480. The M8 is starting to sound like one of these typical chinese pmp's that has multiple issues like A/V dysynching and all the rest once you go above 320x240. I mean christ the M8 will not be able to play files above 320x240! whats the pont in having a 720x480 display then?
What Wong is basically saying is all video formats will have to be re-encoded. Thats very poor. I mean the iphone can decode and playback H.264 @ 640x480! and the M8 cannot even manage RMVB above 320x240! H.264 is also more CPU intensive.
I'm starting to think the the 720x480 screen was a pointless waste of time. HVGA would have been fine and we wouldn't be having all these ridiculous issues.
Real media format actually has quite a good file size to cpmpression ratio. I believe you can actually get higher quality video in smaller file sizes than avi.

06-20-2008 #11Maybe you can. but i am just speaking from experience. I had tv programs in rmvb format and the same video size in avi had much better picture quality. But that could just be how they were encoded or compressed. I find avi better. Plus almost everything people download nowadays is in avi so it would be much more convenient.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsi like rmvb, mainly cause of anime series. i had episodes of eyeshield 21 in avi
at abou 300mb in size for 22 mins and same episodes in rmvb at about 70-80 mb and it;s the same. i think you're right it all depends on how it's encoded

well, at the end of the day all video files for the M8 will be small in size as they will probably only be able to go upto 320x240! Phones like the samsung omnia are looking more and more attractive. I mean video at 320x240 is very poor IMO.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsyou're right, 320x240 will most likely look really awful on a screen that size. but as i said, with the right kind of sw the sky is the limit. maybe lcg will make smartmovie for m8 they made it for everything

So the software is the only thing holding it back? That's very good news if that's the problem and not hardware.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postswong said it's unable of hw decoding higher resolutions, so yes, the right sw should do the trick.

That's good to hear. Let's hope they get some professionals to code some good software or hope a third party does it. One thing I like about the content of my M6 compared to my D2 was the software that came with it. The codecs and converter were a real nice inclusion.

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostAccroding to J.Wong ,M8 is able to go upto 720*480, and has a quite good effect.
Also M8 supports AVI, but if the a avi video's resolution reaches 1200*800, maybe M8 won't play it very fluently.
and M8 also support other popular formats, J.wong has said that, when M8 plays a video(without B FRAME), its effect is perfect, is much nicer than some Mp4 players and iphone.Last edited by Sunless; 06-21-2008 at 07:22 AM.

^ Then why is B-frame so important? if it plays (almost?) perfectly without b-frame whats the use for it?
