It should: all infos we have for now points to the m8 being sold unlocked, especially outside china.

In the US, GSM phone service uses the 850 1900 frequencies. According to the Sticky be Err0r, the MiniOne is 'Quad-band GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900'.
So you can see that it is compatible with US networks, and since it will be released unlocked, you can use any providers SIM card.

the phone may be great but the reason i was interested was as a cheaper alternative to the iphone

According the to the new thread, a test version will be available for $289. It is 8GB, and an upgrade will be available for approximately $60 to upgrade to 16GB. If I were you, I would buy anything but a CECT phone. (HiPhone seems decent though)

289$? That is cheap and even cheaper in €. Maybe I should sell my Blackberry and buy the M8 instead.

I think a good idea would be for Meizu To Donate a "Meizu M8 Beta" To Meizume, Afterall , Its generating great publicity in the Western world for meizu, And what could be better than a full english (No translation), Pre-release product review, By Err0r.

seconded. If it had not been for Err0r's hard work in putting the forum together, I would not have known 90% of the things about Meizu products, let alone where to buy my M6. He has also done a lot to expose Meizu's potential market in regions like the EU, Scandinavia, and the US and Canada.

Hiphone is complete garbage. Stay away and buy a legit sony/nokia/known brand until the MiniOne comes out.

You're right there. You really will be disappointed by the HiPhone. And I wouldn't get your hopes up waiting for a test version, as that will not be available to Europeans.
