I could come up with the same and say something else for example.
Yes I can do that. Here is the last message he did left me on MSN
Hope this is enough for you. Remember I don't talk with Mr. Wong this time. This is another new guy.

If someone knows about the release date it's only themselves who know it for sure,
and you should trust them if they finally report it. I do!
I you don't that's just fine with me.

I will now go to ask him about the date is real or not.
We want to be sure, right?

The real die-hards have potentially waited 17 months for this thing to come out anyway. One or two months difference isn't going to matter anything. Waiting for it has spanned a significant part of my life :P

Besides, I honestly don't think Meizu has a clue for themselves when this thing is going to be released atm. They're probably estimating as much as we do right now. Don't worry, we'll see what they have been able to produce at some point in time.

If it does end up being released in August/September, how long do you think it would take for it to be available for shipping to foreign markets? I'm in the US, and while I bought my M6 from Jarmarc, a trustworthy seller, I'm not sure I'd feel secure about getting an M8 on Ebay. Any thoughts?

Yes, I would like to buy from Meizu directly.

Also I will say that I trust Mr. J Wong (peace be upon him).

I believe that the M8 will be aviable very fast here in Europe/USA.
Look, the most people that have been waiting for so long are NOT chinese, so they will try to make the M8 aviable in other countries as fast as possible.
Another reason is that, if it will be only sold by Meizu, they will have to make it aviable somewhere else, because otherwise there would be some great middle man selling to Europe/USA.

The thing is, it will be very difficult for them to find an 'official' reseller in the US, or anywhere else where Apple has an official presence, due to the copyright issues involved. So whereas you could get the M6 at Walgreen's under the Dane-Elec brand name, no such arrangement will be possible unless the MiniOne undergoes massive changes in the appearance and UI departments, which is unlikely at this stage.

So it seems like Ebay will be the only option for a lot of people. The thing is, I'm already having trouble finding a 16GB samsung p2 on ebay, which is already being sold in Canada, and Asia too, obviously. Maybe some will show up over the summer, but that would mean a 3 month delay, minimum. Can we expect the same for the MiniOne, or is it more likely that some enterprising Chinese/Singaporean/Taiwanese Ebayers will be able to hook us up with these pretty soon after launch?

Also, what's this about ordering directly from Meizu? Will they ship to the US and other Western markets? where can I get some more info on this? Thanks.

Well if they are going to release it in September they must have all the spec. worked out by now. Do we really know what is going to be included in the M8?

The M8 is not more like the IPhone than all the other phones that will be released in near future or already have been released already (Prada).

I sent them a mail regarding that. I got the following reply:

Dear Sir,

Thanks for your email and attention on Meizu.

Mini One (M8) mobile phone is under development now and expected to be released around the third quarter of 2008. It is sure that we are going to release the Meizu mobile phone in EU and US, but it will be a little bit late. We will start the discussion about distributions after the sample, price and spec are finalized.

Pls keep attention on our progress.

Sincerely,

Ella Wong

I just hope they will not make another deal with Dane-Elec.

I dont want extra DE logo's on it and DE still sells the M6 SP as the SL version.

I could have sworn I got a dèja vû feeling with that email there, anybody remembering the same content but with third quarter 07 mentioned?

No flame intended, just a funny feeling i got while reading that. I didn't even know D-E sold the SL version already. They had mega-lag in doing so to say the least. Aren't Apple lawyers going to jump on this as soon as the m8 is sold outside China? Import seems more plausible.

Btw: It's changed from August to "around" Q3 now. We just lost our more-or-less exact releaseperiod again...

yeah as with most of the details relating to the M8.....nothing is for sure at this point. We do know that if an EU/US release does happen it certainly won't be August/September (we still have not even got an exact date for a China release yet). If the M8 does make it out in China by September I personally can't see it officially hitting the EU/US before 2009 (if Meizu don't get sued that is!).

It is an interesting question though, how close to the iphone does a device have to be before Apple send in the lawyers? I saw on engadget recently a european importer got a letter from apple ordering them to cease selling the 'Hiphone' or face a huge fine, but obviously that is a blatant cheap clone.

The thing is some of these touch screen Samsung and Lg handsets look very very iphone like. I suppose the original M8 GUI was very close to an exact copy but since then the Gui design has been handed over to Eico and Wong said himself they would be making an effort to move away form the iphonelike look. I think changing the homescreen will definitely go some way to moveing it away form the iphones easily recognisable look. Nevertheless I think any device coming out of China made by any Chinese brand that is not well established in the west is always going to be viewed sceptically.

If I was Meizu though I would forget releasing it in the EU/US for now and spend the 4/5 monthes after the China release sorting out the 3G and GPS and then ship it straight away in the EU/US with 16gb, 32gb & 64gb storage options. That would never happen though as they will probably be spending the 4/5 monthes after the China release fixing Firmware problems and trying to start work on the M7.

The LG Voyager UI is a huge iPhone rip off, but all the Koreans and even the Americans so typically protective of Apple don't seem to notice. It's definitely worse than the Meizu M8. If the editors mentioned that it was Chinese and not LG, I bet the uproar would be huge. "Oh noez! An iPhone clone from those damn Chinks"
