Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWell i'm guessing it will involve more than simply skinning the GUI. I don't think winCE was made for things like multitouch. They have to change the core code to do that. The 3 sensors have to be inserted to the code as well, as well as the iop-keyboard.
Which makes me worry about software compatibility with normal winCE progs. The iPhone seems to manage with only OSX mobile apps though, so it might not be that huge of a problem.
The issue is more that any software instability may kick in with these drastic core changes.Last edited by DusL; 04-28-2008 at 04:02 PM.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWell, the devices like input (touchscreen) and display will be handled by drivers like on a desktop windows. A touchscreen really it just like 1 or 2 mice moving around and clicking. I think they will do that well enough.
Also, Windows Mobile is based on WinCE as well, and the professional version supports touchscreens. (I don't even know why Meizu didn't start out with Windows Mobile in the first place either. Would've been quicker changing that than reinventing part of it I think.)
And well... WinCE doesn't really have much of a GUI, that's what Meizu is making for it I believe ^^

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postshere's a crazy idea. M8 is based on WinCE 6, which perhaps may better utilise the M8 hardware by being more efficient than Windows Mobile 6.1 based on WinCE 5. also perhaps because Windows Mobile 7 is based on WinCE 6.0, maybe when that comes out, M8 can simply switch over if it really needs to. It's much more future proof this way.

yeah I think Win Ce is far more customisable too, which would enable Meizu to build their own GUI pretty much from scratch as Win Ce 6.0 is only a basic framework. I think if you work with windows mobile there are far more restrictive guidelines that coders must follow and less room for customisability.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsYes, kind of. But Windows Mobile is an open OS. And customizing somethnig has always been easier than reinventing the wheel at many of the places.
The hardware compatibility is about the drivers developped by the supplier of the parts anyways.
