Food for thought: The wait for the M8
After using my brother's iPhone for a few hours to surf the web, watch YouTube and such, it slowly dawned on me that this device was about two major features (corporate class e-mail and 3G) away from being possibly the best mobile device available to date. Now I can say "Ok, that's it. I can safely abandon my Winodws Mobile device for an iPhone after Apple's next software update. You see, Apple is about to release one of the two most important updates in the iphone's lifecycle: Corporate messaging support via MS Exchange and the ActiveSync Protocol.
I'm really disapointed with the progression of the Meizu M8. Even with all the delays, I honestly thought the Meizu M8 would have their device out before MS and Apple would agree to work together, but I was wrong. With the next release of the iPhone software, it will be the most feature packed and functional mobile device available (even with its lack of codec support, wireless syncronizaiton and its dependence on stinky iTunes).
Mind you, I've never been even moderately impressed with anything within Apple's product line until the iPhone. Then, shortly after it was released, I got word about the Meizu M8 and figured I only have to be patient. Hell, the iPhone didn't have support for corporate e-mail anyway.
Now, after Apple's most recent anouncements regarding their 2.0 software release, it's about to become a different ball game. They're about to replece RIM as the number one seller of smartphones in the U.S. I figure this because (in just over a year) the've managed to become the 2nd best selling smartphone in the U.S. I don't even want to know what they're sales figures will look like if they decide to release the phone to multiple carriers world wide when their exclusivity contracts with various companies is up in the next year. I'm also pretty sure that, in a few months, the next big anouncment from Apple will be the one thing that will push them over the edge in the mobile industry: the anouncement of a 3G iPhone. AT&T is currently making a huge push to expand their 3G network (AT&T to expand 3G wireless network | Tech news blog - CNET News.com) and trust me, it's not to improve speeds on the BlackJack and the BlackBerry Perl. Iphone with 3G will mean no more dependence on a WiFi connection in order to surf the web, watch YouTube and download iTunes content (if you're so inclined) at a good clip.
Am I totally off on my opinion/assessment of the iPhone?
Is corporate class e-mail, contacts and calendering not as important to a large number of other people as it is to me?
Is there anything a company like meizu can do to give people options?
