Hi,

there are some news about Meizu within the German Heise Newsticker - saying that the meizu booth was closed by the German police because of product piracy - M8 too similar to the iPhone.

Woah. That was dramatic. I know this is purely speculation, but I had been wondering for the past year when Apple was going to react to the M8... if this is at all how they do it, it was completely unexpected by me.

My trip to CeBIT is canceled. No interview for now. I'll give away 2 tickets for cheap! If you want them please visit the interview thread. It will be updated in 5 minutes with instructions on what to do...

A bad show for Meizu indeed...

Does this mean that they will miss all the other days? No chance of getting back?

If they were shut down but can defend themselves properly and prove they aren't breaking any patent/law, then there would be no reason into missing the entire CeBIT. However, a german detailed investigation that shows they are (or aren't) breaking any rules may on the other hand take longer than CeBIT itself .

Also, I don't think those Meizu people will give a convincing defensive chat in non-native English.....

German law is very strict. If they seize the booth I don't see Meizu getting back there within a week and that's all they have for CeBIT.

Authorities will most likely start an intensive investigation now.

Get my tickets here.

unconfirmed reports coming from the chinese meizu forum are suggesting that it is not do do with an iphone copyright infringement. they are saying J.Wong said it is Nothing to do with the IPhone, but mp3 problems with SISVEL,Italy.

That wouldn't be a surprise; SISVEL is notorious for chasing down anyone they think is violating the patents they are charged with enforcing. They've gone after SanDisk on German soil before.

Thanks for clarification This makes much more sense than iPhone plagiarism...
And it is probably limited to non-M8 player, as I guess mp3 patent will be included implicitely into WinCE6...LOL, I guess it is not good news for Meizu, but also for CEBIT: the number of exhibitor may decrease even more next year, I guess other european consumer electronic shows should rejoice

Good news:

Meizu has opened their booth again (showing the m8).

a meizu manager told the german press, that they have trouble because of licenses for an mp3 player (which had to be removed).

Guess M3 or M6.

@tangmu: What now, will you still stay away from CeBIT or will you go there, now that they stay?

can somebody make a higher resolution video of the m8 prototype, instead of the bad quality youtube video?

This says: A Meizu manager told the press, the raid was not because of the smart phone but because of a portable mp3 player. In the late afternoon the booth was opened up again and the smart phone was presented again but not the mp3 player.

So it must be because of one of Meizu's mp3 players, I think they had earlier series of mp3 players.. My guess would be they had them there too and had problems related to licensing mp3 licenses... Just my thoughts though...
