Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThe reason behind Q3?
Just something I noticed:
On the Meizu forums Wong stated (if I interpret it right) that there were some "unexpected issues" concerning the performance of the m8. On the chinese bulletin boards Wong said that the '6400' cpu was not strong enough read here(crap Meizu), and that there were stories about how it's going to be replaced with the '6410' model from samsung -> read link bottom specs area
Well seems that news has dropped from Samsung about this ARM cpu here, here and here. Guess what, these newssites state a Q3 period for mass production of those cpu's. This exactly goes in line with the recent Meizu e-mails that have stated Q3 as release.
This is probably the reason that Meizu stated the showoff on CeBIT to be the "first prototype". It simply has the older, problematic CPU in it. That's why they promised to show the "final hardware design" but for some spectacular reason can't actually release it yet.
I also remember one Wong statement here(crap Meizu) where this controversial part came up:
"We miscalculated the m8 drags on the development of a longer-m8 listed perhaps before the winter is Meizu What we need is your support and encouragement rather than the final Thank you...."
It was said that the "winter" part could mean more than one thing. But guess what, Q3 is indeed before the winter season of 2008. Perhaps the text should indeed be interpreted in this way.
May I remind you that this story is purely speculation, but it makes damn sense to me :D. So for all you optimistic people out there, don't expect a Q2 release but expect it around the end of Q3. CPU mass production will be in Q3 so the M8 release will be more to the end of it.
That's all :D
Edit: The (crap Meizu) links from the Meizu-site are not pointing to the correct page atm for some spectacular reason in their url-coding. They should both be linked to a topic called "Meizu M8 countdown 17 days", filled with Wong quotes.Last edited by DusL; 02-12-2008 at 04:35 PM.

It seems like other companies don't have to wait for this cpu. I am convinced they will have flooded the smartphone market before Jack can say "springroll".

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsperhaps the other manufacturers use the older one, and meizu will patiently wait for the better version, so in the end meizu will have a better product, and becouse of that their customers will be happier.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThey will have a better CPU, but the other specs will be boring in Q3 or even Q4 2008. I'll post a list (and comparison chart) with interesting mobile phones in the next days. Or maybe after the CEBIT.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsi think the screen resolution is absolutely amazing, i am in doubt if it is even possible to make a 720*480 screen in only 3.3inch, thats over 260dpi, where the iphone for example only has 160dpi and the m6 has 166dpi, thats almost double!

For some reason, I do not believe this. I believe this is another story on how unorganized Meizu is.

Sorry, I think I misread it. I though they were going to mass produce the first CPU's in Q3. Nevermind my comment.

hmm this is interesting, it could very well be the reason behind Q3. The only thing I question is why would the original 6400 processor not be powerful enough to power the M8 If a slower processor than that can power the iphone? I suppose it may have to do with advanced video decoding at larger screen resolutions as the iphone only supports 1 video codec >> H.264, with all the video encoded at 480x320 while the M8 will offer full res support for a number of different codecs upto 720x480 which will be more CPU intensive. This is one thing that people always forget when complaining about how long it has taken. The M8 will be able to decode Mpeg4 video at full DVD resolution upto 30fps!!! that is truly amazing for a mobile phone, and surely must be a world first for such a compact device.
Another interesting thing, this link I got from the original links>>>>>>
MacNN | iPhone teardown: $200-220 build cost
shows how much the iphone costs to produce, and that was a while ago in july so it does seem feasable that Meizu could produce something similar but for a reduced sale price.

Sounds pretty feasible to me - nice find DusL
Although its so near to CeBIT now that im just gonna wait for official statments rather than speculation.
...It certainly is food for thought tho
