Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsYes, I have seen this (another link: http://www.modmygphone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8461 ), and if the specs are close to the m8 one and the price is also similar, I think Meizu is done:
- Lenovo is a chinese company with good reputation: M8 can not count on chauvinism to grab a part of its domestic market
- Android is a platform with much more support and potential growth than Meizu OS (This would have been different if the compatibility with WinMo was large, but it does not seems to be the case)
This lenovo thing can of course be long away of comercialization....but Meizu is still delaying the m8 commercialisation, so they can end broadly distributed roughly at the same time...
I smell bankrupcy in 2009 for Meizu, they missed their opportunity to become a large player in the mobile world by one year...

Thanked 30 Times in 17 Postsi mostly sgree. although i still think the M8 will be a better multimedia device, than that Lenovo. actually this own China Mobile OS and close cooperation with one of the local manufacturers reminds me of what's going on in Japan with ie. NTT Docomo (their OS based on Symbian), and some japanese manufacturers produing exclusive devices for them.
it's not all bad though, i'm still optimistic. but it's sure, that this Android stuff is mostly good to ruin the attempts of small companies so far, and not really good enough to change the "battle" between the big fishes.略懂

Lenovo may be "a Chinese company with a good reputation" but their mobile phone lineup should in no way be compared to their computers. If you look at Lenovo Mobile's website, it's pretty easy to guess who they're trying to compete with:
????
To me, that says "We're just a lame Nokia".
Still, the Android effort look like a big step, but I think the target market is completely different and even so, as copernicvs said, the M8 is going to reign as the multimedia phone champ in China.
It's going to be real interesting over the next few months to see just how big a market for the M8 there really is in China.

Well, everyone's reporting that Cowon has announced the S9 for the US at $199/$239 for 8/16GB starting on December 19th. Yeah, it's not a phone, but wow, what a lovely device. Can't really see this helping Meizu in markets outside China...fortunately for them Cowon products are much more expensive inside China.

I just gave up on the M8 and decided to keep my diamond and just ordered an S9 16 GB for 220€ shippment inclueded. Should get it around the 26th.
It is not a phone but it is a kick ass multimedia device. A guy at generationmp3.com recieved the french final version and he is positive, it is one of the best... JW missed his call, other companies are coming and fast.

Congratulations!!!
You have made a great decision... to keep out of your personal enjoyment of media away from cell phone is very wise... and to choose one of the most beautiful players that have appeared in the market lately is also great.
I own a Cowon D2 and I can assure you that there is no other maker that can rival its quality... Cowon S9 will be a success...Meizu could have been one big contender but all the time spent in design M8 will have consequences... indeed M8 is a great device too... but all this efforts for use it as a cell phone????
.
I just wish that Meizu get into its original line and design a media player (M7?) capable to fight with S9... they have all the capabilities, but only if they don't waste their time trying to defeat Apple. Its like to spent silver bullets killing buzzards.Last edited by DaremoS; 12-16-2008 at 12:37 PM.

thanks for the enthusiame Daremos and for confirming that cowon is a great company.
I did in fact end up thinking that a phone is a phone and a multimedia device, well... a multimedia device. the S9 offers 55 hours on music and 11 hours on video, this is just huge!!!!! and it is not very big so can be carried in my left pocket with my diamond in my right one
and not worry about battery issue.
The guy on generationmp3 tested video formats and it rules :
MPEG4 ASP (XviD, DivX4, DivX5, DivX6, 3ivX, NeroDigital ASP ...)
VID-3A test codec DivX (MPEG4 ASP 4CC DivX + MP3 CBR)
VID-3B test codec XviD (MPEG4 ASP 4CC XviD + MP3 CBR)
VID-3C test MPEG4 ASP multi-bframe without packet bitstream
VID-3D test MPEG4 ASP multi-bframe with packet bitstream
VID-3E test MPEG4 ASP custom matrix (MPEG4 ASP Custom Matrix + MP3 CBR)
VID-3F test MPEG4 ASP Qpel (MPEG4 ASP Qpel + MP3 CBR)
VID-3G test MPEG4 ASP GMC 1 & 3 warp point (DivX & XviD)
all files in avi (720x400px @25fps, 48khz, (96kbps, 384kbps, 64kbps or 192kbps)
and no re encoding neededLast edited by bmob; 12-16-2008 at 04:28 PM.

Hi all, commng back to tell you that I got my S9 on the 24th and after 4 days I can assure that I don't regret the M8.
The S9 AMOLED screen is soooo sick, quality is perfect and you can use it in sun light.
The device is so thin you don't feel it in yur pocket.
Now sound quality is the best I have ever heared, my headhones ar living a second life. UI is smooth and well thaught, only transfer rate is slow but ou don't load 10 gigs of music every day.
Last but not least, battery life, a huge 55 hours for music and 11 for vidéo (thanks OLED screen). M8 doesn't come close to that.
I now have my diamond in my right pocket that gives me gps, wi-fi and phone and my S9 with its amazing capabilities in my left pocket and don't even feel loaded
Guys, go for this device, it is cheaper and way better....
