Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostThat they are,but apperently its been really hard unlocking these softbank phones
for those who dont knowsoftbank is the quivilant to vodafone or orange in the uk,basically its a phone operator.
Anyways back in may they gave out the sharp 923SH which in comparision to the m8 has better specs and its around $400,the only problem is that it has no wifi
but the 931SH is an bloddy HD phone, just when you thought the HTC HD was the best of the best, sharp blows it out the window loool
The fact is its perfect, style specs and price wise
only problem is it doesnt have wifi, which is important yes but i was thinking,if you get unlimited 3G in the uk then itll be fine lol
i mean WIFI is only important if you pay loads for your 3G
Dont get me wrong ive been a faithful m8 follower for over 2 years, and i still would love to get it but I do have to admit if for 50 usd more you can get THAT it kind of brings the whole topic into question
I hate to admit it but meizu took long, and now instead of having a revolutionary phone like when the Iphone came out,the m8 is just going to be another touchscreen phone,a nice touchscreen phone but nothing EXTERMLY special like when the iphone came out
the HTC 4G is something completly new but im afraid WIMAX isnt implemted everywhere
but having an HD phone, cmon thats something that really would get anyone drooling lool
think about it
what are your thoughts?

3G is definitely slower than Wi-Fi here. Wi-Fi in a phone is a must for me. The Blackberry Storm looks pretty good but it doesn't have Wi-Fi. I don't want to pay for 3G here yet, it's too expensive and the coverage is not good.

Coverage is half-baked where I live as well, and the plans aren't inexpensive enough (<50CAD/month). On my friend's iPhone, Wi-Fi is much faster than 3G, if it's even available.

Wi-Fi is verry important... if the M8 doesn't have Wi-Fi I won't buy it =p 3G is far to expensive and too slow ~_~

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsNo, I want to use it on every device that goes on internet. For example, I've got a Wii here. It can connect to internet. Should I connect it through 3G instead of WiFi and thus my broadband network, simply because it's a Wii and not a computer? That makes no sense. 3G coverage isn't really good anywhere, especially not indoors. Imagine you want to watch some movies on YouTube but you wan't to be in your big fat leather chair in the living room in front of your cozy little fire. It doesn't make sense to bring your entire computer over, while you could have some fun there with your M8.
Also 3G is slow. It would be useful when providers would start giving full bandwith which is around 3mbps but they won't, and I can't live with a 512 kbit download. From WiMAX on, it gets interesting. 3G is something you use when you' re outdoors and you really need to look up something, like the weather, train departure times, latest news, etc. You don't use it for having fun on the internet because it's too slow for multimedia.

My 7MiB/second connection blows 3G into the dust.

...it looks way too much like the Samsung blackjack. And I want a touch screen! Otherwise, it seems like a great little phone.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThat Agora (Pro) looks like quite a nice device, though. Stop saying "but it looks like this other phone", cause the M8 has quite some similarities with 'another phone' as wel.
And the PRICE of this Agora Pro is very nice. Google says:
458.85 Australian dollars = 230.288311 Euros
That's including international shipping costs. The Pro version, which includes the wifi and all... And it's a 3G phone. Using Android. No OGG support, but I sent an e-mail and they said it will probably be a matter of time before someone writes support for OGG on Android (no chance on me getting it until there really is OGG support).
So, in other words: if you're don't necessarily need a 'huge' (touch) screen (like the M8) and you don't mind using the same resolution for video as the M6, this Agora (Pro) is a very good alternative, in my opinion.Hurrah for OpenneSS!

Thanked 9 Times in 5 PostsHas any Russian out there tried the HTC Max 4G? I'd like to know if it's really good. (Yes, I have a soft spot for HTC).

12-05-2008 #278Well, actually the M8 is extremely special because it's China's very own iPhone. Yeah, it kinda looks like one and it kinda acts like one and it won't have the extended functionality because of the mind-boggling number of iPhone apps out there, but it is homegrown, it is a damn nice device with better A/V performance, built to last, and most of all, affordable. The M8 isn't for you per se; it's for the 400+ million subscribers in China and, with a little wink-wink mod or two, has everything you'll ever need...in China. The crappiest HTC phones (Dopod in China) cost around the same as the 8GB M8 and when you add the word "Touch", well, you're in another league altogether. As has been said over and over, when you talk about all these "droolworthy" phones, don't forget their true cost. In China, the M8 is aimed right at the middle and, using that "China Advantage" in build/labor costs, succeeds admirably in that regard.I hate to admit it but meizu took long, and now instead of having a revolutionary phone like when the Iphone came out,the m8 is just going to be another touchscreen phone,a nice touchscreen phone but nothing EXTERMLY special like when the iphone came out
This thread ought to be renamed "The Alternative M8 Products topic [World-At-Large]" because if it applied to the market the M8 is really meant for, it would probably have died off after one, maybe two pages.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIf the Agora Pro ends up being about half the price of other good smartness here in Australia. Agora: $400, Touch Diamond: $1,000 (outright). And the phone comes without a contract and unlocked. It is so perfect for me specs and price wise but I don't like the way the QWERTY keyboard is vertical. I'd like it horizontal horizontal one (more like the design on an Xperia or G1), so I won't be buying this phone
