I actually briefly considered ditching the M8 and buying another phone, but after looking around, I realized that the M8 was the only phone that I wanted and afford, for that matter.
I like the Palm Centrio, and its legendary Palm organizer, but after looking at the specs I gave up on it. It's $384 for the unlocked one as well...
Then I looked at the BlackBerry lineup, and realized, wait, wtf, why am I even considering a phone that costs more than my laptop unlocked?
Then I looked at the Sony Ericsson Walkmans, but then there wouldn't be a decent EQ.
The M8 is truly going to be the best touchscreen phone for your dollar (euro, w/e).

Well, what I see as a M8 alternative is a smartphone that has the same form factor as the M8, comparing with stuff outside of that, it's not really fair for the other one, and the M8, since a different form factor has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsFor me the G1 is perfect, as it is open. Good Google Apps implementation is nice too.
Unfortunately the M8 is too much of an iPhone clone. I want something that people write applications for, and I don't see that coming with the M8 (or even if there will be applications, I'd say most will be Chinese). The UI looks awesome though.

Meh, there's a giant English community behind the M8, we're just one of them. Besides, the G1 is also what you could call an iPhone clone, look at its form factor... Sure it has more buttons, and a keyboard, but it still looks like an iPhone when it's closed.
Also, I'm not buying any phone that's more than 300 dollars when it's unlocked. Any other recent good phone on the market, even regular candybar or slider, flip, you name it form, is usually more than the M8 unlocked. The plan rates for most phones is a lot more than any plan you would like to choose.
I'm just looking for a good smartphone that doesn't kill your wallet, and tie you down to a contract. Buying an iPhone where I live gets you a three year contract, and we all know how fast Apple can be at pushing out new versions of their products. It's usually less than 2-3 years.
It's funny how people with the 'cool' phones are laughing right now, but in 2-3 years, they still have to use it. By then some awesome new hardware feature probably came out.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsIs there any information about music play quality of M8? I would like to combine music phone and touch-screen phone in one. But where is M8's sound quality compared to Nokia Tube and non touch-screen Motorola phones (ZN5, E8, EM30)?

if you had the opportunity to try a meizu m6, then you could notice its very good. better than an ipod for instance, but not a COWON of course. yesterday someone posted that M8 has a better sound quality compared to M6. As about nokias, i never liked them. They sell phones, not Mp3 players, so the sound quality cant be compared even to meizu.
Anyway, my needs is the same as yours, i also want a touch screen phone with a high quality music player. I guess M8 is the right choice for us

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsFrom what I've heard the Android OS itself is promising, it's the G1 itself that is not. Bad battery life is one main issue I heard.
About formfactor, 'alternative' could be interpreted in any way you like. When the thing's finally out it makes for even better comparisong between devices I believe.ZTE Blade

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsDidn't try M6, but I know it's reputation. Also I didn't try Motorola's music line, but as I know currently E8 and EM30 are the best musical phones. Just I can't understand why Motorola didn't continue E6 (touch-screen) form-factor. So, I'm waiting for M8 - hope it will be the best for my needs.

The bad battery doesn't surprise me. It has 3G and GPS, so it is going to have battery life, just like the iPhone 3G. What phone with 3G and GPS does have good battery life?

One that's the size and weight of a brick.

according german site the G1 is having just 130 hours standby (without using GPS and internet).
In my opinion the phone has that less battery life, because it's sending all your data (private too) to a big server all the time. like a little spy google desktop is! it's listing your websites, phone numbers etc just to see what you like and dislike to improve the marketing of products. google sell this info to other much money paying firms. like a payback card where payback see where you got your points from and where you buy. this info is is used from many firms to improve their marketing strategy. Just my opinion!
cause i hate to buy a phone included a cotract of t-mobile, this thing is no option for me! except their will be a way to crack the t-mobile branding and use it with all kind of sims. and someone garanties me that there is no connection between the phone and a data server oslt

Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postsyes the D2 sounds better ; now assuming one will use DSP you can still manage some surprisingly nice sound out of an M6 , not on a par with a D2 but finally not so far ; still (with the M6) you have to use headphones with rather high efficiency if you want to keep distorsion as low as possible on M6
now...possibly a bit off topic ! but Meizu totally missed a nice opportunity to keep us waiting for the M8 ...AND buy another Meizu item too
I mean , they simply had to release a 3,5" unit , sticking to 320*240 ala an Archos 405 , call it a M7 Meizu here, simply keeping the guts and design of an M6
a much largeR screen would have appeal to many , since in 4/3 aspect ratio (320*240) then a 3,5" screen displays at exactly same size as (playing 320*240) on a 16/9 screen 4,3" wide screen. not bad
if you have a Sony PSP, then you can compare with your M6 what a difference it makes in visual confort ; and you will 'soon' forget (forgive) the rather coarse 115 ,or so, DPI of such a 3,5" screen

In this topic of sound quality there is a lot of mystification and in the end what really worth is what the users feels... I have a M3, a D2 and also a Onda VX858... I am talking of 2 Wolfson DAC and a Philips DAC (M3)... and I enjoy equally this 3 players and I sincerely can't say which one sound better.
I personally prefer the sound of M3 despite I think that Philips products are simply for the big mass as Panasonic and brands alike.
But as a player Cowon D2 is by far better than the other mentioned... but this doesn't mean that Meizu will release a good sounding cell phone... it has no sense to make the devcie even expensive adding a dedicated DAC... in fact it seems by its specifications it doesn't have one. And this make a big difference. Sound will be average as any other cell phone.
