    Meizu Phone questions

Hi, if the Meizu Phone comes out in the US late this year or early 2008, what Cell Phone company will carry it (ie., ATT, Verizon, T-mobile)? Will it be unlocked somehow?

Also, I thought that the Meizu minione was gonna be only a music player/pmp in the United States. I mean wasn't the minione supposed to be released in the US without phone capabilities?

it hasn't been released in the US yet. when it is, it probably won't have phone capabilities.

it will be a GSM phone, which means you will only be able to use ATT or T-mobile's network.

As of what I can gather that m8 supports td-scdma and gsm. TD-SCDMA is a chinese only network developed to bypass "western" cdma patents. As yao said the only networks in the US that support gsm are AT&T and T-Mobile, and right now AT&T has the monopoly on iPhones in the US and will remain to be to 2009 and possibly beyond.

The main reason many people are staying away from the iPhone right now in the US is that they are pidgeonholed into signing a contract with AT&T and therefore having to cancel their current service. (Verizon, Sprint, etc) For AT&T this is good because that is guaranteed income for two years.

I'm not a business expert but I would guess that AT&T would shun away from activating a iPhone like device on their network because that would threaten their sales of the iPhone and knowing that the customer has no place else to go to activate their phone and they really want something like it (iPhone) they might break down and spend another absorbant amount of money and sign a contract with them and buy an iPhone.

Now don't flame me, this is just my opinion. Now if the miniOne picked up CDMA or EVDO technology I think Verizon would try like hell to keep it off their network because they are based heavily on the BREW pricing scheme for their data and apps. The last place a miniOne fan could turn would be Sprint Nextel (I'm only looking at the big 3 here) and with their current data friendly network and pricing plans I think it could be a good home for the miniOne. (I'm on Verizon so I'd be stuck changing carriers again)

    Just my $0.02.
