Android firmware for Meizu M8?
Do anyone know about Android firmware for M8, cause recently no one is talking about it.
I remember Jack promised a same firmware like in M9 to be used in M8 for testing purposes.
Thanks

Thanked 1,049 Times in 391 PostsHe didn't promise the same firmware for M8. They only decided to provide the necessary drivers and some support from engineers to help the development of an Android firmware.
M8 is very different from the M9 in terms of specifications so it wouldn't be possible.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsHi,
I were asking about an official Android firmware, not the one that you provided the link for.
I just remember that there were some news that it would be an official android firmware developed by Meizu.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI'm just trying to understand here something...Is it really so hard to make an Android firmware for M8, if they already prepared one for M9?
Now, most of the time they changing the body of M9 and the graphic interface of FW maybe, i don't think that it's took a lot of effort to make an Android work on M9 hardware.
So to make it work on M8 hardware will be even easier know.
What is for sure, that it much easier then takes to LBE team.
Hope Meizu will think about it

Thanked 173 Times in 72 PostsGod, the hardware on the M8 is completely different.
It takes even longer to get android on the M8, because a lot of things need to be optimized because of its 'slow' processor.
Creating a phone(hardware) is rather easy, creating good and reliable software is NOT.
Try to learn some C/C++ and you will know that this isn't easy AT ALL.Last edited by LVL; 11-02-2010 at 05:00 PM.

Thanked 189 Times in 130 PostsIt might be more then this;
remember that Meizu made a deal with MS to get Wince at a bargain price. There might be a clause in their contract that prohibite the use of other OS on the M8 series.
So drivers will not be the problem since they got all documentation from their hardware supplier.
also I want to state that it would be in some way a suicide for Meizu to official bring out android for m8, cause why the hell would you want to buy m9 if the only real new features will be a faster CPU and 3G?

You forgetting here something - a lot of people buying new phones because of new look and new hardware (more fast) even though a software is the same, like it was for sony-erricson...many years it was same soft with minor changes. BTW, M9 will have a GPS also, don't it? It's another reason to buy it.
Anyway, the reason i started this topic, was because i was sure that Meizu talked about releasing Android FW for M8, for testing purposes...but i think it was when M9 announced, so actually a long time ago

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI learned C/C++, so i know how hard is to create software, and even harder to test it the way, till everything works well. But here, the software (i mean the core) is already written, all it needs, is to optimize it to work on different hardware. I know, is not so easy, but it's not the same as to write a code from the beginning.

Thanked 189 Times in 130 PostsYes that´s true, but not all of us want those extra options.
For example, I don´t use 3G; even though i got a free & unlimited 3G pack on my sim card from work. Reason I don´t use it is cause it kills a battery fast. Same with GPS, A-GPS is crap and I´ve got a build in GPS in the car.
So honestly I am happy with the M8, it looks good, has a decent standby time and all options i want (TS, internal memory,..)
Only downside I know is that TS sometimes sucks, ánd the reception isn´t that great however my current SE has a better one the FE.
So for me (and many more) a decent Android build would mean a new perspective and yet an other reason to keep it since it would be able to do so much more then now:-)
Now back on topic:
Indeed, they mentioned it, but they also promised to run older CE software ánd a Mobile Office application. Never saw one of them :-)Meizu talked about releasing Android FW for M8, for testing purposes...but i think it was when M9 announced, so actually a long time ago

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI just hoped that Meizu will be on our side here (M8 users)...i bought mine M8 a year ago, so for buying M9 i will have to sell old one, and no body here, in my country knows what is Meizu M8 - will make me a hard times to sell it.
Maybe the replacement program will be a good one - I definitely want Android.
Yeps, here you right...It was always hard to trust Jacks words

I wouldn't rely much on what customer support has to say. Wong is the CEO, and he recently said that Meizu won't be leaving M8 users without Android in some form; or something to that effect. Logically, Wong would be the first to know of any decisions Meizu makes, because he's the one that makes those decisions; not Customer Support.
I'm not defending Meizu, though. I seriously doubt the M8 will officially get Android anytime soon since their priority is on the M9 now.Last edited by Source; 11-03-2010 at 11:07 AM.
