First of you should read [HowTo] Configure GPRS & MMS in 0.9.2.7, you will also need your AT&T settings from the List of GPRS Network Settings for M8.
Furthermore, checking and possibly upgrading you firmware version could be a good idea, depending on which you got you phone with.
