Some solved settings for GPRS/EDGE/MMS problems
Hi,
I am not telling anyone who already knows this how to "suck eggs", but I noticed not many threads exist for the problem I had until today, so wanted to post my solution to the problem.
I originally had an issue where my "supplied" GPRS/EDGE settings from my network provider and confirmed online, actually didn't work. After reading the few threads that do seem to touch on this, I think maybe it is an issue that plagues other people also.
So.....if you have a problem using GPRS in any fw version, try this:
GPRS/EDGE
Name: Mobile Internet (or whatever you want to name it)
APN: (use APN provided from network provider)
User Name: (use APN provided from network provider)
Password: (leave blank)
Proxy Server: (leave blank)
Port: (leave blank)
Server: (leave blank)
After this is done, ensure you have saved and selected the profile and it has the blue dot continuously, and GPRS is turned on, Global/International is also on, but Call First is off. Then restart the phone. Upon restart navigate to the Internet Explorer and go to a site (like google to test).
In some FW's you may also need to double check manually the Windows/UsrConnectNode.ini file is correctly reflecting the above settings also and the IsSelect setting is set to 1.
In my case, I was originally supplied with a heap of other information (like ports and server addresses), but this actually stopped the connection from happening rather than helping.
MMS (must have a seperate GPRS profile setup first as per above)
Go to SETTINGS > GPRS > create a second profile and use the following info.
Name: MMS (or whatever you want to name it for MMS only)
Apn: (APN supplied by network provider)
User Name: ( Leave blank )
Password: ( Leave blank )
Proxy Sever: (Proxy provided by network provider – use no leading zeros)
Port: (Port by network provider – 2 or 4 digit)
Server: (MMSC provided by network provider)
DON’T select this profile within GPRS menu, as it will mess up the other web profile.
Make sure GPRS is turned ON, Global/International is turned ON, Call First is OFF.
THEN
go to MESSAGES > SETTINGS > SERVER SETTINGS> APN and select MMS (make sure blue dot is highlighted).
Now the M8 knows the MMS messages to use that profile, and for web to use the other main profile.
THEN
go to (download if necessary) M8 SPRITE > SYSTEM > REGISTRY EDITOR > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Meizu > Sms and confirm the settings
ApName: MMS
Dialogize: 3
GPRSConnect: (APN supplied by network provider for the WEB profile – not MMS)
GPRSPassword: (Value not set )
GPRSUser: (APN supplied by network provider for MMS profile)
Information: 3
InfoWindows: 0
MMSAutoDownLoad: 1
MMSRecv: 1
PreviewNewSmsContent: 0
ProxyIP: (Proxy provided by network provider – use no leading zeros)
ProxyPort: (Port provided by network provider)
RefuseUnkown: 0
ServerAddress: (APN supplied by network provider for MMS profile)
SmsCenter: (Value not set)
ThreadID: 1
After all saved and done, exit, and restart phone. After rebooting, make sure GPRS is still switched on for MMS to send/receive.
Hopefully this will help others out there before they waste as much time as I did.
PS - Written based on FW 0.9.7.9, but may also work on other versions if you want to try it. Nothing to lose if you are having GPRS problems anyway.Last edited by pvandenh; 05-29-2010 at 06:28 AM.

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostWow, it works! Thanks pvandenh - you're a genius.
I am baffled as to why the standard settings worked when I bought a 5 day internet booster from T-Mobile, yet they failed to work when I bought a 6 month internet booster. However, I would not have guessed in a million years that I could get online with the settings supplied by pvandenh.

No problems. Was happy to work it out myself and wanted to save someone else the effort. Trial and error got me there in the end. I just really wanted my email account to be accessible without being nearing WIFI (which it now is using gmail).
I don't normally use MMS, but I will check to see if I can work that one out also (I think it needs the port/server info to be correct to work).

Hi,
I got it working for me, through combining a few ideas in the forums.
This worked for me. Maybe for you too!
SETTINGS > GPRS > create a second profile and use the following info.
Name: MMS (or whatever you want to name it for MMS only)
Apn: (APN supplied by network provider)
User Name: ( Leave blank )
Password: ( Leave blank )

Again, I did this on FW 0979.
·Special thanks to globalbargains, and other thread contributors, as this info was worked out through multiple sources.

Thanked 4 Times in 3 Posts@pvandenh - who is your network provider? I am on TMobile USA. I would like to know so that I know if I am putting in the correct settings.

My network is Vodafone Australia, but would be very interested to find out if this logic works also with other networks internationally (obviously different data in the fields from each network provider).
Vodafone weren't able to tell me what information to put in what field of the M8, but I worked out these fields through trial and error. I think the M8 uses the information somewhat differently to other phones and needs more/less information in some places.
I have the above settings for both GPRS (1st post) and MMS with my network information now loaded, and both are working without issues.
This may indeed not be the same for every network, but it is worth a try if your GPRS/MMS is currently not working. Good luck.

@jaysharp13 - when googling the T Mobile USA GPRS setting, I would use the APN = wap.voicestream.com in the APN and Username fields of your GPRS connection, and leave everything else blank.
Does that work?

04-17-2010 #9
And for MMS, I would guess a separate profile of:
Name: MMS
Apn: wap.voicestream.com
User Name: ( Leave blank )
Password: ( Leave blank )
Proxy Server: 216.155.165.50
Port: 8080
Server: 216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
(maybe need to include "http://", I didn't need it)

I have tried everything you have suggested before. But they did not work for Tmobile Usa for me.
However, because you have revisited this problem you given me another idea i will try it. But it is true some providers require less information to connect to their networks.
Good way to spark our brains!!
Props..

I have just updated to the latest custom russian FW (N416), and looks like this work the same with the above settings still.
For anyone having MMS problems still with any FW version, I strongly suggest for you to look at the registry settings closely after setting up a MMS profile in the system GPRS menu, as it looks like it doesn't carry over to the registry fields correctly automaically (holds onto the default "cmwap" values etc). Like me, you may need to set it up as a profile AND then do it again in registry.

Note: When sending MMS, if you are experiencing sent FAILED messages, try sending the image/multimedia ONLY! i.e. without any written text etc.
