    Alternative M8 design

I wanted to come up with something different... similar to the iPhone and the M8, but not a rip-off.

The connections are crappy, didn't bother to model them in detail. Also the resolution of the photo of the screen was a bit low. Didn't bother to add logos etc. aswell, but I think it should stay rather clean, with meizu only engraved at the side. The casing is made of brushed aluminium.
A feature of the phone is that when the phone is locked (so no key is accidentally pressed) while playing music the touchscreen, which is similar to that one of the iPhone and only reacts to fingers and nothing else, can still be used to draw gestures. Like drawing a anti-clockwise circle replays the song, a line to the right = next song, a line to the left previous song, a line to the right and then down = next album, line down = pause/play, ... That way the player can be controlled while in the pocket.

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/51852036/ (the back, other woods/materials are possible as the battery cover. Expansion slot and SIM card are there too. I might have overdone the camera module a bit though, with optical zoom (the volume buttons are zooming then, the button with the dot releases the shutter) and a flash that can extend out of the camera. But then again the price difference camera/no camera was high (didn't knew the phone was missing aswell) and you can easily downgrade the design)

    What do you think?

I do like it better than the minione (pos that that is). It is more Meizu-like, but still lacks anything that separates it from the competition.

You're still 100 times better than the idiot copycat designers Meizu has working for them.

the wooden back is awesome .. but i also like the whole shape - it's not too round and most of the frontside is covered by the screen. awesome!

Very nice work! What program did you use to draw this phone up? Solid Edge?

    Thx for the comments

    I'm a Cinema 4D user.

It's not really Meizu-like I think, at least I didn't use any Meizu design clues deliberately, also because then it would look too much like Apple again.

    Thx

The back is made of wood, yeah, dunno how this type of wood called though. Since it is a removable part one might imagine several types... different wood types, real wood/fake wood, aluminium/gold/other metal. Aftermarket battery covers could be possible to customize the player.

I wouldn't mind if Meizu would take my design, I might be able to adapt it to their needs (size etc.) if they want/need it. The size should be easy to adapt to what the player actually requires, it's pretty flexible IMHO, and I think manufacturing would be possible since Meizu is using aluminium on the back of the M6 anyway (they do, right?), so I guess they know how to handle it.

Instead of using real buttons on the front it could be possible to extend the touch area so it can be used like the LG Chocolate phone aswell.

    yep yep... I hear that
    great job

Not sure is Meizu woudl be interested though. Not because your designs arent good(they are great!) but because if they would accept your ideas they would be bombed by 100000 other people who think they have talent... know what I mean?
