Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsNew M8SE several problems
I bought an M8SE last week on Taobao here in China, from a reputable seller. I really don't want to return this phone but there are several problems:
WIFI shows the networks nearby, but will not connect to them, or does so for a very short time then loses the connection. And that is when I'm right next to my WIFI base computer, and only if it's a non-secure network.
The WIFI icon on the desktop hardly ever shows life, even when it is showing the nearby networks. And the E icon for EDGE never shows if WLAN is on, but that's probably due to using one or the other right?
AM I doing something wrong? I tried installing the WIFI plugin from this site but that changed nothing. And I've tried using the pre-installed WIFI and EDGE cracks but again no change.
I also never get the page where you input the GPRS data, simply doesn't appear when I use the GPRS software or the Googlemap software from M8fans.
One more thing is MMS seems to connect to the net before sending.
I've just bought it so I presume I'm using the latest FW.

Thanked 25 Times in 22 PostsIt seems that you had upgraded with a leak firmware (not finished) and not an official.
Try this one : Meizu M8 FW Version 0.9.3.18 official
And perhaps like me you will need the wifi patch : Meizu Me - Downloads - Meizu M8SE WiFi Patch
I think that everything will be better.
Good luck.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI've tried both FW now, and nothing changes. WIFI is just hopeless on this thing, I mean I buy a netbook and it finds it first time, and stays connected but I've wasted a whole day on this now and got nowhere. Really disappointed with it.

Thanked 189 Times in 130 Postsi have no issue´s with wifi on my SE, setup is fw 0938 (no patch used), old 'G' wifi router from philips: perfect reception 20 meters away with lots of walls between it.
Are there many wifi networks close to you?
cause i think that´s your problem, check it with netstumbler and change to a better wifi channel...
btw i don´t get it, every SE user plays with wifi crack and wifi patches, it has no use at all!!!!
So i suggest you clear registry and do an upgrade to 0938 or 0939 and try again from scrap cause all those patches ain´t helping you but makes it even worse.
On the GPRS/MMS questions i can´ help cause i don´t use them, sorry.
goodluck!

Thanked 25 Times in 22 PostsStrange, very stange but did you use the wifi second edition Patch. ?
Meizu Me - Downloads - Meizu M8SE WiFi Patch (Don't forget to reboot after)
Test these, try to connect and see which ip adress you receive, after with your computer open a dos command windows (cmd and after ipconfig /all) and perform a ping to these adress (ping x.x.x.x -t) and saw if you have a response, if you don't it seems that you have problem with your wifi.
Did you try with another wifi access point (router) ?
Good luck

Thanked 55 Times in 23 PostsI have the same problem..the wifi on the SE is hopeless, unless you are in the same room as a wireless modem it wont connect, mine only works if i am next to my computer,or a a friends place or at McDonalds..the patch only makes the connection to the internet faster once you are connected,it does not help you get connected.
Here is how mine works,if i am in the same room as the source i get full strength,if i move into the next room,it drops down to just 1 bar...
Dont expect too much mate.Last edited by bolinao; 01-17-2010 at 07:36 PM.

hm, I have M8SE with fw0938 and my wifi works like a charm. I checked with 4 different APs. So it does not seem to be a general problem. Of course you shouldn't expect the same connection quality as with an external wifi antenna.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThanks for the suggestions guys. I've decided to keep the phone and work this problem out. It sounds an exceptional problem so if it persists I'll contact Meizu about it. Gotta take a little trip half way round the world now, and will try your ideas in a couple of days.
Cheers

Thanked 25 Times in 22 PostsSorry but not i my case.
If i don't use the wifi patch, one ping answer every minutes, and impossible to join my router and to surf to the net.
It means that it's not a problem of speed but quality of the signal.
In final, i really don't understand why some Meizu M8 SE works with no patch and other not

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsWell I'm in the UK now, and I tried the WIFI all along my journey - Shanghai airport, Dubai airport, Dubai Mall, Newcastle airport and at home, and the signal is just so weak if it can connect at all. I did connect for a while in Dubai Mall, but even that was weak and the Opera browser is so hopeless. I guess I just have a bad model, and will have to return it to Meizu when I get back to China.
There are so many other issues as well, like Gmail wouldn't work, and the Googlemaps kept returning to the same China map even when I was in another country. I tried to install the English UCWeb browser but there is no access to teh UCWeb folder when I connect by USB to the computer so I cannot relace the exe file. I tries copying and pasting in the phone, but that didn't work either. The desktop customisation in Sprite doesn't change the page of the widgets, tried 5 times to shift the clocks to page one but never works.
All in all, there's so much work just getting this phone to do what you pay for, I wish I'd bought something else.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThis might be a stupid question.. but is the router your router?
There might be a MAC-filter on it.
If so, you can connect to is, but you will be kicked off in no-time.
I have the same security for my own router.
PS: I also have the FW-leak of 15 Jan, but my wifi works good.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsAt home I can only connect to a non-secure ad-hoc network, and then only if the phone is next to the computer, and then most apps don't work. I don't think it's router related, thanks for the suggestion though.
