Really dumb question

Hello. Loving my M8 experience thus far and is great value for money.

Can someone please tell me what the letter "G" (next to the signal bars) means? Does this icon ever change?

I believe it means there is GPRS (data standard) available in your area.

that is absolutelly correct
and if your provider offers edge connectivity..you see an E instead

As long as you cracked EDGE, else you will only see the G.
