Hardware issue: Headphone plug
So, here is my first hardware issue with my M8: The headphone plug is defective. With earphones pluged in, I always hear just a small part of the music played in the music player. When I shake or push the cable it's gettin better, but just for a moment. The most annoying thing is that when I plug the earphones out, the M8 still "thinks" (due to the defective contact) that the earphones are plugged in, so nearly every kind of sound (like when somebody calls) is in nirvana and not in the in-built speakers.
What should I do? Is there any clue to repair it by myself like taking a needle an bend the contact back to the right position? Or is there any solution to get to the contact in a better way by opening the phone? I bought my M8 from ***. This would be my last option due to the shipping and everything, but do they have REAL (functionally) warranty for the phone? Some experiences?

Thanked 13 Times in 8 Postsare you sure it's an issue of the port... and not the plug?
have you tried other earphones?

Thanked 189 Times in 130 Postsi agree with owenray,
first check the headphones most likely they are broken.
Your problem also sounds a bit like an earlier mentioned problem, will see if i can find the topic back.
About the plug;
it is a small chance that the internal plugs in the 3.5 mm jacket is providing this problem.
Most likely the 3.5 mm jacket is hanging lose on the pcb of the m8.
You could open it, and softly pull this jacket to see if the solderpins ar still tight enough.
If not it is an easy fix if you have the right equipment.

I'm home now and I tried two different kinds of headphones and my 2.1 speaker system: The two headphones were a disappointment because it was exactly the same situation as with my "main" pair. But the 2.1 sytem worked well and the sound was (as usual) wonderful. But (even as usual) after I pluged out the speakers, the M8 was still in "headphone"-mode (No sounds out of the in-built speakers).
Even the "offically disgusted"-thread does not help me out. I can still hear music with the in-built speakers, but it depends on how I plug the headphones out: I have to push them to the very left so that the M8 recognizes that the headphones are plugged out. So I'm very very sure it's not a software or a user issue. It REALLY IS a hardware issue: A defective contact. Arg! What should I do?

Okay, don't wanna use a bluetooth headset. So how should I handle the whole warranty thing? Did you just send it to Meizu or to the store you bought it from? And how long did it take and did you pay the shipping or was everything free? Did you get a completly new M8? And if yes, was your stuff (photos, music, contacts) "left" on it?

Thanked 50 Times in 20 PostsI bought mine in Shanghai ( I'm living in Taiwan). So I shipped it back to a friend over there and he got it replaced at the store I bought it from.. ie a new M8. Concerning warranties and shipping details, there are threads concerning these details.. use the search function and u will find.
As for a total replacement... at first they wanted to just repair the unit but i got my mate to demand a newly manufactured unit.
Unless ur there to demand a new unit, I'm guessing they are going to just 'repair' the unit... and u can bet that ur internal socket connections are going to be well and truly screwed now from all the twisting and turning you've done with the various headphone u tried in the socket.... so that will add another few weeks to the wait [as a new unit is immediate.. fixing the jack takes time].
In that case , I shouldn't imagine that they would play with the FW or settings/data, but I'd still back up ur essential settings just in case.
Good luck.Last edited by cybermessiah; 10-30-2009 at 01:26 PM.

I now decided to get a bluetooth headset to save some nerves. But it doesn't work. I connected the JABRA BT3030 to the Meizu till it said "Connected successfully". But the sound still comes out of the in-built speakers and not out of the headphone in the JABRA. What could this be about? Is the JABRA not compatible to the M8 or is it something about the firmware?

I am using the same Jabara BT3030 unit...
When u turn on the BT , make sure that u go to ur music options and in the settings [press the last icon to get into that menu] make sure that you have the 'Bluetooth Output' option enabled [its at the vey bottom of that menu].
The phone should then connect via blue tooth and audio transfered to the Jabara unit.
When you want to unplug the Jabara, make sure that you stop the playing track and exit from the music menu first. Then disconnect the Jabara unit by holding down the bottom button for a few seconds and the sound will return to ur M8 external speakers.
By exiting the music menu first, next time u plug in and turn on the BT unit and go to music menu, it shouls automatically connect to the Jabara without you having to enable the bluetooth in the music menu again.
It seems strange, but the M8 wil only connect to the BT unit when the music option is set to BT output... but then all sounds [message tones, clicks etc will be transfered thru the BT].
I still have to find a way to connect sound to the BT unit without first opening a music track].. I think thats more to do with the M8 rather than the Jabara unit itself.
Hope that helps.
