So I've had my M6 for a few years now. Today I was playing some songs and suddenly one of them (an Avril song) started playing at like twice the speed!
Avril's voice got all chipmunky because of this. You could see the seconds on the player advancing at a faster rate. I tested the MP3 file on my PC to make sure that it's not the file itself and it plays at normal speed on the PC.
So I thought maybe it was something I did to cause the playback speed to increase. At the time all I was doing was advancing from track to track pretty quickly. I tried pressing buttons and playing with the touchpad but could not get the playback speed to change again. Even after I turned off the player and then turned it back on it still plays the song at a faster rate. Most of the other songs are playing at normal speed though there is one other that is playing at a faster rate, though not as fast as the Avril song.
Anyone else experience this issue?
It would be a great feature if the M6 could adjust playback speed!

This is really odd, I've never heard of anyone with this problem before. I'm not sure what might be the cause, but since you mentioned that the seconds on the player were advancing faster, it's probably not a fault of the mp3.
Try playing the file on your computer, if it plays back at the regular speed it's the player.
Did the player always do this, and what firmware are you running?

Try just re-loading the firmware.

Thanked 19 Times in 19 PostsIf my M6 ever going crazy about play speed, it always going very slow and distorted, never faster.

I don't think re-loading the firmware work but I could be always wrong. Try checking your MP3's with this program:
MP3val - home page
Great tool for improve stability. The M6 is usual a more sensitive player. (Crash, stutter issue etc.) Different players sometimes react differently on errors and bad encoded files. Perhaps you got bad vbr headers that cause it.Last edited by MeiVincible; 09-25-2009 at 07:43 PM. Reason: spell

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI got the T2004.6 firmware. I did test it on my PC and it plays fine.
It's not a problem that I'm trying to fix since it only happens with 2 songs.
I just thought I'd mention it in case this was some hidden feature that I wasn't aware of.
I guess it might be as you said some issue with the way the MP3 was encoded.
I will try that Mp3val program.
