    which M6 to get?

so i'm down to choosing a dane-elec one and an OEM one.... i'm hoping to get chinese language support which the dane-elec one doesn't have unless you install new firmware on it. the OEM one supports chinese language but it is $20 more. has anyone had any problems installing the OEM firmware on dane-elec players? can anyone shed some advice? thank you!!

    i think you're confused...

The Meizu players are not OEM. They are simply the original Chinese version of the exact same player. Not some brandless or rebranded thing.

Dane Elec is merely the distributor in most parts outside of Asia where they had to change the firmware to live up to certain laws or avoid certain fees.
The player itself is exactely the same, made by Meizu and Meizu branded.

So the choice is simple and depends on where you live.
Live in China, get the Meizu original
Live anywhere else and want any kind of warranty, get the Dane Elec as the Meizu original wont give you any warranty outside of China anyway...

Putting the original Meizu firmware(for chinese support) on a Dane Elec player is easy and wont mess up your player.(if your player gets stuck in the process there are DFU tools to restore it)

    warranty

Hi, Thanks so much for the advice.... I found one place online www.HouseofDap.com that seems to sell the China players and they say they have 1 year warranty also. Is their 1 year warranty then only good for if you live in China?

    That's correct.

A player bought in or from china will only give you a warranty in China.
In the US or Europe or wherever the warranty is not valid.

Of course, if you buy the same player in the US you DO get a warranty in the US

    Actually, you're wrong Job.

@kewlpuff, they offer that warranty for the products they sell. That means, if you buy from them and the player has something wrong, you have to send it back and they will try to fix it or replace it with a new one.

    warranty determination

thanks so much for the info... hmm... i see. how is the place of warranty determined though? Because I have plenty of friends living in China that can claim warranty from me. However, if I buy, I'm going to have the player sent to a US address.... but for warranty purposes, I could very well register at a address in China...

thats another story.. Warranty is not geographical in this case... you're not getting the player from a step-in store but an online store. You just have to mail the seller to claim your warranty.

    mail in warranty?

hey marcelo, thanx for helping this newbie out!!! do you mean to say that if i mail in my warranty from china, even though i buy from the US, i can still claim the warranty?

as u can see, i'm gettin pretty desparate for that M6

update: ok~ i see the post to job above... to confirm: if i buy from an online store, then i can send the player baq for the warranty regardless of which version i buy and where i buy from...

it's actually easier... if your player needs to be repaired or replaced and you buy from the seller above, you have to send the player back to the seller. He will honor your warranty.

I think you misunderstood me..i might have been unclear..
what i meant was that if you buy a Meizu player in china you wont get any service IN the US.
Of course you can send it back to China but the US distributor will not service a broken Miniplayer that was bought in China
Of course the Chinese seller will.

Dane Elec is the distributor of meizu in the US
Dane Elec will not repair/Service a Meizu player that was bought in China

So like I said it depends on what you want...
If you live in the US and want a player with a US warranty...buy a dane elec

If you dont mind returning your player to china(thats assuming your seller is in China) to get it fixed in case it breaks you could order one from China
Having a Chinese friend to register the player is handy to get the warranty but it wont change the fact that you will have to send back the player to china...

@kewlpuff: yes, if you buy from an online store you will get a warranty(regardless of what version your player is) with the player and you can return it to the online store to get it fixed. Where you would have to send it of course depends on the location of the store
