Hey, I'm having some trouble with my m6sl - firmware 2.004.7
I'm getting really frustrated that all the music I have ripped off my CDs with the GNU program "Sound Juicer" has the artist field incorrectly displayed on the m6sl. All tracks ripped this way are tagged as ORT="artist". eg: ORT=TV on the Radio
I've tried editing the tags with programs like easytag, but I can't see anything that might be causing this problem. No other media player or software displays them as ORT="artist", but the problem is consistant enough for me to think that either the m6 or sound juicier do not properly handel tags. I'd rather not have to rip all the tracks again as that would amount to re-ripping about 25-30 CDs.
Also, can anyone tell me how to get the m6 to reconize album song order - song order can be very important for some albums and particularly with the classical genre.

Just try backing up all the data on your M6 and downgrading to 2.004.6. That might solve your problems.

I'm not too sure how to solve it then... It seems to be something with the player reading the tags. I'm not sure why, but occasionally the M6 won't read tags correctly, one time it didn't read at all for me and the file was just "song.mp3".

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostI'm investigating on this. There seems to be something wrong in the tags. Currently, I found a tag editor named "tagtool", which fixes the problem. Just changing a bit one field and saving the results is enough to make this problem disapear. I too use Soundjuicer as a ripping tool, which triggers this problem on the Meizu M6. Trying to correct the tags with easytag didn't fix the problem.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsThanks for the tagtool suggestion. Sound Juicer is adding the following tags:
album
artist
artistsort (*)
date
musicbrainz_albumartistid
musicbrainz_albumid
musicbrianz_artistid
musicbrainz_trackid
title
tracknumber
tracktotal (**)
* - causes the ORT=<artist> problem
** - causes sorting of songs to be out of order
I removed all except:
album
artist
date
title
tracknumber
and now everything works fine.
Why wont Meizu release a firmware that can read newer tags or the lease they can do is write the code so it ignores tags which are not supported (like artistsort & tracktotal). I think this is the last straw. Unfixed bugs, 128 songs per artist bug for example, and now this. I shouldn't have to go song by song with tagtool just so my M6 displays the song info correctly. How does Meizu expect owners of the M6 to upgrade to the M8?
The Sansa Fuze or Cowan iAudio look interesting.

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostThanks for the info, only got this one now
.
Here's a command that seems to get the fields handled by the firmware:
strings M6SL.ebn | egrep -i "#\[[A-Za-z]*\]"
where M6SL.ebn is the firmware file.
For my firmware, I get:
#[ARTIST]
#[STARTTIME]
#[ENDTIME]
#[ALBUM]
#[TITLE]

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostTagtool is Linux-only, and is available using the software center for your Linux distribution. You're not supposed to download it on a third part website.

Thanked 1 Time in 1 PostI conmpletely agree with you, the whole thing lacks polish. These are silly bugs. The Vorbis comments specification is clear and already was a few years ago when the M6 was developed. This could have been easily fixed if the firmware was open source, but now we're stuck with a silly piece of softare in it, and nothing we can do...
