Greetings,
I purchased an Miniplayer M6 SL 8GB sometime back in January of 08. I enjoyed it for a month or two then I had to move, and have moved several times since then. In the moves the M6 ended up getting safely stored away and has not been used since then.
I recently found it and figured I'd charge it up and use it again. I just figured out how to turn it on and am wondering if I need to do anything with regards to firmware? Or have there been any bug fixes that I should know about?
Also, I've had to wipe my hard drive a couple of times since last I used the Miniplayer and I recall that the unit came with a disc that I couldn't use (my iBook has a slot drive and the minidisc is too small to be accepted). Is there software that I need on my Mac in order to interface with the Miniplayer? If so where might I find the correct software to download?
I was wondering too, when I connect the M6 SL to my iBook G4 should my Mac sense this as an attached drive? I can't recall if it's supposed to or not.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. The unit is basically brand new and I'd enjoy using it if at all possible.
Thanks a heap!

You don't need any software, just copy the music files preferably to the pre-created music folder and you're all set. As for firmware, check which one you have in Settings->About. If it registers as SL 2.004.6, S 2.004.6, or T 2.004.6 you're all set. If it doesn't, just tell me and I'll post directions to update the firmware.

Your M6 should work fine with your mac, however, just don't format it with your mac, as it uses a proprietary HFS format.
If you are having trouble with your player, please visit this thread first and try the steps before you panic. Most likely you will be able to fix your player easily using the steps listed.
Players: Meizu M6 SP 4GB, iPod Touch 4G
Headphones: SoundMAGIC PL-50s, Auvio In-Ear Armatures, Bose QC-15s.
Current Audio Congifuration: X-Fi Elite Pro w/LM4562 Mod -> Mission MS-50 + Boston Acoustics Subwoofer

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsGreetings JkPwNster,
Thanks for your assistance. I wrote a reply to you last evening but I must have done something incorrectly since it doesn't appear to have posted.
Anyway my firmware for my M6 SL is Version 2.004.4.
Also any hints about syncing my miniplayer with iTunes would be helpful. I've tried SyncTunes and iTunesMyWalkman but have not had success. I'm running an iBook G4 with OS X 10.4.11 and iTunes8. I've dragged and dropped songs to the miniplayer but building playlists using "My Playlists" on the device itself is very time consuming. It would be great to transfer playlists that I've already created in iTunes. Any suggestions?
Will await your reply regarding upgrading the firmware.
Thanks again.
And thanks to MBarry for your input. I appreciate all the help I can get.
Grateful,

To upgrade your firmware, follow mbarry's guide, but make sure you only update to 2.004.6. 2.004.7's improvments are negligible and tend to make more problems than solve them.
I think the reason why the sync software isn't working is because you are using the newest (?) version of iTunes. As for the playlists, I don't know of any other way of creating them, unless mbarry knows something about that. There is a workaround, but it takes up a lot of space on the player. Still interested?
You put the music files for a playlist in a folder on the M6's drive, and then from the M6's browser accessible from the main menu, select the folder and play one of the songs. It will then proceed to play the rest of the folder's contents.
