Hi,
I have a brand new M6SL on which the button clicks to navigate menus don't seem to work.
I have already formatted it (yellow screen > purple screen > green "resource" screen) and I have replaced the firmware with 2.004.7. I had hoped that this might fix my problem, however I was worried that if it didn't, I may have to face the possibility that I have a defective unit.
Specifically, I am talking about the ">||" and ">>|" buttons, which are used when you have a selected menu item which you want to "click" on. If you were to click the two buttons mentioned, you would be able to get "into" the menu item... as in go to a lower level in the directory structure.
Well, when I click (that's push, not touch) these buttons on menu items, nothing happens. I get the click sound, but nothing else happens.
I can use the "M" button to get back up a directory level.
I can use the all of the buttons while I'm playing a track (">||" plays/pauses the track; ">>|" goes to the next track; "|<<" goes to the previous track and "M" goes back to the main/root menu). But they don't do anything in menus.
And just to confuse things more, if I hold my finger ~just right~ and swish it a little to the right, I can "touch" my way into a menu item, but it takes some patience and it's not very predictable. So apparently the electrostatic part of the touch pad does work, it's just that in menus, the click (button) parts for the Play/Pause and FF buttons don't.
I'm at a loss.
I had a miniplayer a couple of years back and I seem to recall that the buttons clicks were how you navigated through the menu items. That's a correct memory, right? I mean, they *are* supposed to be usable for that... right??
Any suggestions or is this just a dud?
Thanks...

Hi and welcome to the forums. Those buttons are not meant for menu navigation, only for song playing. If you want to enter a menu, you have to tap the center of the touchpad. If you find this a bit odd, sliding your finger from the <<| to the |>> button then letting go also does the same as the enter button. In SP and TP version players, there was a specific button to enter, but in SL players, that button's place has been taken my the play/pause.power button. Hope this helps!
If you are having trouble with your player, please visit this thread first and try the steps before you panic. Most likely you will be able to fix your player easily using the steps listed.

Thanked 0 Times in 0 PostsI just tried the tap and you're completely correct. That seems to be the way you get through the menus. Interesting.
Did you not say that the Play/Pause button was also an enter button a la the previous versions of the miniplayer? If so, then under which circumstances does this button actually function as such?
I primarily use these players for when I ride my motorcycle. This implies a few challenges, chief among which is the fact that I have thick leather gloves on while riding and can't deal with delicate electrostatic pads like this one. I liked my other player (the model I can't recall) because I could click the buttons to navigate through menus and make choices.
If this is how the SL player is designed to operate, then I shall have to rethink my choice.
Can you please tell me which (if any) of the players do still use clicks to navigate with?
BTW, thank you for clearing this up. I was loathe indeed to think about packaging this up and having to send it back to China from the US. I will certainly try to get used to the way this one operates, but if you can tell me of another in the miniplayer line which uses click buttons like the old one I used to have, then I will buy that one and put this one away as a backup player. I'd also be very appreciative.
Thanks

No probelm. SP, TP, and T1 players all have this function. They are getting to be more rare, because they are no longer in production, but with this, you get really cheap discounts if you know where to find them. About a week ago, I saw an 8GB SP for only $50 with free shipping, although that deal has already expired. Keep a lookout on some cheap SP, TP or T1 players. I suggest getting a SP if you had the choice. They have brighter screens and better sound quality.
