    Worth buying an M6SL still?

Hi all, I've never owned a Meizu, but I've trolled this forum and many online stores and viewed many youtube reviews in hopes that one day I'd be able to purchase an M6 (never had a lot of money and couldn't justify replacing my Creative Zen Touch 20gb until now).

My biggest question is: Is it still worth the money to buy an M6? I know the DAP is amazing, but how does it compete with the latest iPods/Zune/Sansa?

I love the fact that M6 is upgradeable, but is Meizu still updating, or are they fully working on M8 and M6 is going to wither and die soon?

Let me know your most brutal opinions because I don't want to be trapped with an iPod/iTunes garbage or a Microsoft product.

i'm using an older version of the firmware and have found no compelling reason to update. my son has a zune and loves it; 80 gb, good ear speakers easy to use and decent sound quality. if my M6sl got lost i'd buy another, no hesitation. if i couldn't find another M6 i'd probally get a Cowon D2 and deal with what some call a bad user interface (and the ridicule i'd feel coming here) the D2 is a great sounding player that matches up nicely with the M6, similar features. the real upside on the D2 is that the price is dropping with NEW Cowon players the O2 and an S9; coming soon. a 16gb flash player like the D2 is looking very nice. i've had a few zen micros and a vplus, creative makes a nice, stable, boring player with average sound quality and lackluster features.

what happened to the zen? flat battery? or that cash buring a hole in ur pocket? lol

    welcome to the forums btw

Haha - Yeah, the cash is burning a hole in my pocket and it is time for a decent upgrade.

I get very annoyed at the clunky and bulky feel of the creative - it's 6 years old, but I've taken care of it that you'd think it was brand new. I'll probably load the sucker up with my music and create some kind of docking station for my car. I'm just about fed up with carrying it around. Especially since I'm afraid that its hard drive could be damaged if I go running and I drop it (it's a real HD). I'm also annoyed that I have to use a remote to access all the "Extra" features like radio and recording that the M6 already has.

I'm not a fan of Cowon because their OSs look cheap and clunky, much like my current DAP. I could be horribly wrong and outdated with my opinion, but the last Cowon I played with (over a year or so) did not impress me, but sadly I didn't test the actual music quality, hah! With the creative zen touch, it came out as a direct competitor to the 2nd gen iPod and was much better with sound quality, but I'm sure the Meizu is far superior in comparison.

I was told that if I wanted small <20gb get an iPod, but if I want big >20gb, get a Zune. At the same time, I have a hard time going through my own library of music and when I listen, often wonder why I bought some of the songs. So I guess, small is the best one to go for me.

I'm just curious if I should wait for the M8 in comparison to the m6. A couple more months won't kill me, but I won't lie, I don't like tons of touch screens, probably won't use its applications crap, and I like to "Keep It Simple, Stupid" when it comes to my electronics.

Let's face it, the M6 is old and at the end of its life cycle. It's still a nice player, but even in China, there are a bunch of other players from Chinese manufacturers I'd look at before the M6. The current MSRPs of 499/4GB and 699/8GB are pretty non-competitive considering what you're getting.

The M8 is a phone. Do you want a phone along with your media player? If not, and considering your motto is "keep it simple", get a Sansa Fuze. Along with the Clip, it's considered to be among the best players in the entire industry for SQ. Cheaper than the M6, too.

I love my M6. I've dropped it, dropped it in water (very deep water) and it still faithfully works, other than the occasional touch pad mishap. Better than my sisters i-pods and mp3 players, she's been though about 5 in two years, and I'm still on my meizu! But I guess it's all down to personal opinion, I wouldn't get the M8, I don't see the point, but again, that's just me.

In my opinion, I think it is worth it to buy a M6. If you like to listen to Rock, Classic Rock, Jazz, basically music that does not require deafening amounts of Bass, then get the SL, as it is very thin, and easier to find, wheras if you like a lot of Bass, try looking around for a SP model, as it had superior, well controlled Bass, while the SL can't go as far without sounding muddy. The SL however has a cleaner, brighter, and livelier midrange. The SP is also about 2 times as thick, but the player is really small, so an extra bit of thickness won't matter too much.
If you are having trouble with your player, please visit this thread first and try the steps before you panic. Most likely you will be able to fix your player easily using the steps listed.

Players: Meizu M6 SP 4GB, iPod Touch 4G
Headphones: SoundMAGIC PL-50s, Auvio In-Ear Armatures, Bose QC-15s.
Current Audio Congifuration: X-Fi Elite Pro w/LM4562 Mod -> Mission MS-50 + Boston Acoustics Subwoofer

I cannot say for the SP but the SL sounds really nice. I am exceptionally pleased with my player. Its thinner than most other non Microsoft/Apple products out there and supports Ogg Vorbis. My three main criteria! If this player did not exist I would get a D2 or the new S9.

Well, in 2006 i bought an old Creative Muvo TX with the great memory amount of 512MB for the very expensive
cost of euro 9.90 (it was a special offer in a basket). For me it was good so the last year I decided for a ZEN 2GB (good the slot expansion). After a firmware uprade and the best EQ set, my thinking was "now I throw it out the window"! Where Creative put the bass? My old TX was really better then ZEN (and no comment for the included earphone......). So before buy another PMP I read a lot of reviews and the Meizu SL showed up....
Now I'm very sadisfied and i learned that the first thing is SOUND because if you have a beautiful UI but a dog barking in your ears, you didn't understand the meaning of a PMP. MUSIC!! Some people spend a lot of money for a 2 knobs amplifier but when they close their eyes and listen to...it's paradise.
May be SL is at the end of its life, but it sounds really good for the money it costs. I would buy another one if mine died. Bye

    (sorry for my english...)

I keep reading about SP has better bass than SL.
How big is the different. I play mostly rock and metal but I really like deep bass on SP.
I bought Cowon D2 and on the process of returning it.
I am considering to get SP again or SL.

Of my experience the SL is pretty weird when it comes to the bass. It sound like there is always a little of ViBE? because when adding a few notch of ViBE, the bass doesn’t sound or react much different. To say it simpler it was a bit more muddy compare to the SP. It even keeps me away testing fully my new earphones because I don’t have anything else by now.
Just adding a bit bass and several of my tracks suddenly sound muddy in an unnatural way. So I then have to keep it low for not let this be a problem. I just hear this with mostly all of my earphones.
The SP was simple just nice and warm. I was able to compare the SP between the SL for a short time, but my SP did unfortunately got some malfunctions and was needed to return for service which did ended up I’ve just got my money back.
Dane-Elec did unfortunately stopped business with Meizu months ago but that did also mean that they stopped selling all Meizu products. (I forgot to say this)
You may in that also notice that several stores don’t stock Meizu players anymore and is harder to find. (Europe)

Well, since you already tired the SP and D2 I am little unsure if the SL might then “fit” your music but if you still find the SL very interesting then go for it. I just agree what mberry said above but we all do have personal preference.
You get for sure much clear mids than the SP and no hiss issues. Great thing! The highs can be as well easily adjusted to match the SP.

I am properly going try the S9 soon since the M8 is still not out in my world. Might grab a SP again as well if I can find one. The SP has been pretty hard to find since SL came out. But now it’s close to impossible. I actually need a bit help from you guys finding a place to get one maybe somewhere in Europe. I’m looking for a black 8GB. You can pm me if you know a place.

Hello! I've had my M6SL for a couple of years now, and if it was lost or destroyed tomorrow, I would buy another, no question. I've owned iPods and MP3 players of several other types over the past few years, and the M6SL is my favorite, most-used player. I use it almost everyday and it has never given me problems.

FWIW, I use Linux on my home computer and my M6 integrates perfectly with my computer's operating system.
I love my Meizu M6 SL.

I was going to buy the d2 but I found the SL and well chuffed. Sounds good, is really thin and holds all my music.

Just out of interest why are you returning your D2?
