Thanked 0 Times in 0 Postser 35? Isn't that getting into damaging your ears territory? I usually keep mine at ~8-9 for most music. Maybe ~12 for classical. <shure se310>

I use the regular headphones they came with. And i like my music to BLAST and this is what does it for me just my taste. And at 35 feels comfortable to me cuz i wanna block everything out nd i cant afford the expensive earphones. IDC i think it works for my songs.

In all seriousness, if you're not careful, you may get permanent hearing damage.

Thanked 19 Times in 19 PostsI did use my PT850 today and with my mostly negative valued EQ I easily go above 30 to get a good comfortable volume too. I have my volume restriction on 34 for avoiding muddy sound so I never go 35.

I think its quiet normal. All earphones have different impedance who like depending how easy they are to get loud.
PT850 is a hard one, where you need to raise your volume more than normal to let them play.
My MD-52 is difficult too. I think my volume is between 25-35 here.
Worse my EX71SL I go sometimes all out on 37 with volume restriction right there too.
But I remember when using EP-630 I never go higher than 18. They quiet different.
The earbuds from dealextrem are great low too. <15
I "study" a lot on head-fi.org right now and I read that there it might be more risky to get hearing damage by cheap earphones. It's better to use more expensive earphones like SE310 or better because they are mostly easier to drive and you don't need to turn up the volume on your player.
About your volume ineedhlp 27 is my limit with your settings.Last edited by MeiVincible; 08-06-2008 at 05:19 PM. Reason: spel

i usually go to 30 but the times i go to 35 is when im outside and its noisy.
Also i like the settings i use mostly cuz im able to hear the lyrics and have bass without turning up the bass booster all the way up.
Also it depends on the song thas playing sometimes a song is perfect on 20 and other times i have to go to 35.I love my M6SL 4GB best $55 i ever spent. Got it from Ebay.

you'd probably only need 30+ for a earphone thats severely inefficient or has an impedance > 80ohms.
Canalphones in particular kill very fast. I've used various IEMs and canalphones and can safely say that you shouldn't need to turn them above 9 (IME shure e5c and ety er-4s need more). If you feel that your music is being overtaken by noise from your train, you either have a poor fit, or your canalphones do not isolate well.
In general you should be starting at volume 0. Then turn it up just so that you can hear your music, I generally aim for 60% music 40% ambient, though due to the nature of IEMs and their isolation advantages over canalphones, you really don't need to turn them up too much in order to block ambient noise.
And no its not more risky to use "cheap" earphones, its risky when you aren't wary of the volume. The volume kills. The volume kills. The volume kills. IIRC, 37 on an ex71 is beyond safe SPL hearing and will damage your ears. Recent studies also show that some people are more resilient to high volumes, but not everyone, sticking to safe SPL levels is probably your ticket to ensuring that you dont get permanent hearing loss or tinnitus.
I'm not saying that i'm a benchmark, but heres some of the volumes i listen to on various earphones on the bus
