Is it gone? Can anyone help me

I had my player plugged in usb mode but I didnt put any files on it or even open up the device on my pc.

I went to check on it, and nothing but a black screen ,so pulled out usb cord, and tried to turn it on, nothing, not even clicking, so put the usb back in, and it says this device has malfunctioned and cannot be recognized.
I cant get it to respond at all, no signs of life apart from that it connects through usb, but it say it has malfunctioned.

Is it gone? does anyone have an ideas on what i can do, or why it happened?
I have only had this not even 6 months, and ill be more than a little peeved if its dead so soon.
