unknown album unknown artist and no genre

    Hello all,

I'm new in this forum and need your help.

I bought my first (and maybe last) Meizu m6 SL 8 GB with FW 2.004.6

After buying the player I copied 7,8GB mp3's tagged with Mp3Tag 2.40 to the player. All songs are correct tagged with ID3v2.2 or 2.3. Artist, Album, Title, Genre, ... can be seen in Mp3Tag, WinAmp, Real Player, Itunes, Windows Media Player, Helium Media Player....
The embedded covers are already removed. I stored the mp3's all the same way:

    \music\artist\album\no-title.mp3 no = 01...21 followed by "-" and title.
    example \MUSIC\Blues Company\Damn! Let's Jam\02-Silent Night.mp3

The problem I had was, the Meizu recognized only some tracks correct with album and artist, some were mixed mistaken; ether the album or artist was wrong/correct, but most of the mp3's were sorted by unknown album - unknown artist - correct title. Nether a genre was shown.
After a long time of searching in this forum and trying I found, that most tracks were tagged with a number like this; 2/13 or 5/6. After editing all number to just one character (1...21), the album and artists appeared correct in most cases. For the remaining wrongs I need some further days to find the reason I guess .

The problem which remains is, that no sorting by Genre or Title is even offered. Only a listing by "all title" (not alphabetic), album, artist is available. No listing by Genre appears, because no genre gets identified with any song.

Does anybody know whats going wrong with this "marvelous" player? I don't know how to fix these big problems. The sound is great, but the basics must also work with an 130 Euro player . Even my 7 year old Thomson mp3-player has this "sophisticated" feature.

    Michael

There indeed is no sort by genre, guess that's some design thing.
I can't really help with the tagging problems cuz I use ogg vorbis files on my M6. Better quality and no stutter bug thing that people keep getting.
As for the sorting, you can sort by filename too, and using TagScanner or Tag&Rename (or many other tag management proggies), you can rename all of your songs in one step to the format you prefer. Then you can sort by filenames very nicely as well. Other than that, you're stuck with the sorting options it gives you in the music menu, sorry. And well... for the features the M6 offers, I think it counts as a quite cheap player, so yeeaaa you gotta get used to some bugs I guess.

I have had the same experience with my player and I am determined to get everything right. I used to use itunes with a SLVR phone so I had all my music in aac format. I converted it to mp3 and I put some music on my M6 and I got a ton of unknown artists like you.
I now use winamp, but I really use itunes to manage my music, because it lets you go to "view info" and there is a next button, and I can rename a mass of stuff easily.
I have found erasing the disk 1/1 thing, comments, and the total track number fixes the problem. For example a cd with 1/14 you need to erase the 14 on all the tracks.
I hope that helps. I am working on mine right now

I did as you described. So I also deleted all comments and now all tracks were recognized correctly by my Meizu (artist, album, title).

    Thanks a lot

Additional I generated some genre-folders, where I now store the tracks. That is not what I estimated, but it's ok

By the way. You wrote, you use ogg vorbis files because they are better than mp3. Another wrote, FLAC files are the best.

Whats true; which format is the best in relation to the file size?

to get sorting by genre, there are 3 solutions :
    - use playlists
    - use genre folders and play with the file browser
    - abuse the "artist" tag to store the genre and make the "album" tag "artist - album"

I hope you got everything sorted out! I am really enjoying my meizu. Except for the skips at the end of the songs sometimes. I have been using media monkey, and it is the best for the meizu. Try it out!
It is way better than winamp
